HEALTH EDUCATION DURBAR AT EFUTU JHS, CAPE COAST
As part of their anniversary week celebrations, Efutu JHS in Cape Coast invited the PPAG Cape Coast clinic to conduct a health education durbar. The topic of focus was teenage pregnancy.
The discussion began with a question: "Have you ever seen a teenager who is pregnant?" Approximately 70% of the students responded affirmatively. When asked what a teenager would do with an unplanned pregnancy, the majority said they would end it.
Ten students were invited to share their thoughts on why teenagers engage in behaviors that lead to pregnancy despite receiving s*x education. The students listed various causes, which were addressed by the lead facilitator, Michael Tagoe.
Michael emphasized the importance of resisting peer pressure, he added that unprotected s*x can lead to infections, ge***al injury, interrupt education, or even death. He encouraged the students to prioritize their education, stay focused, and seek help when needed. The Yenkasa contact number (0800202010) was provided as a resource for support.
Following the discussion, nine students came forward with questions, including a class 4 pupil who sought clarification on the meaning of s*xual in*******se.
The PPAG team provided individualized support and guidance through one-on-one conversations, creating a safe space for students to ask private questions.
