⏰🧭 _*CURBING THE SLOW PACE OF DEVELOPMENT IN THE AMANSIE CENTRAL DISTRICT*_ 🧭⏰

Leadership is the fulcrum, around which the attainment of the collective aspirations of a group of people revolve. There is really no *'good'* or *'bad'* leader per se, but the aspirations, behaviour, intelligence, nature, and insight of the *followers* dictate how leaders should govern. Therefore, when one sees *any leader*, he can tell the *nature of his followers*. Hence, the saying, "A *leader* is as good as his *followers*".

By nature, humans, including leaders, are lazy, and will require a *demanding followership* to put them on their toes.

In my candid opinion, the *slow pace of development in Amansie Central* is partly because *followers/indigens* are not demanding enough. In my few years as an Assembly Member, I've observed generally that our people are;
1. Not well informed
2. Poorly educated
3. Unaware of most Central government policies and programs
4. Ignorant about the duties of various leaders in the District / Constituency
5. Not ambitious of development enough
6. Unaware of numerous opportunities available for grab, either on their own, or through their local government authorities.

Due to the above unfortunate issues, *indigens* in the District seem to *settle for less*, ignore or let go many precious opportunities, perceives few duties performed by leaders in the District as a 'kind gesture'.

Unfortunately, leadership seem to have capitalized on this state of oblivion or 'ignorance' of the people, to shortchange the inhabitants in the District, a phenomenon, which has *impoverished* the people of *Amansie Central*, and has re****ed it's growth as well.

It is therefore incumbent on us as leaders (including Assembly Members) to *educate, enlighten, and sensitize our people* on their rights, responsibilities, available opportunities (and how to access them).
When they're this awaken, they shall in turn, push leaders to *up their game*. It's *our duties as leaders* to give the people this *needed enlightenment*, and when we are no longer leaders, we will sit back and enjoy how our *future leaders* are being supported and held accountable by *discerning followers*. It shall be for our own good and for posterity to judge us right

In addition, leadership within the District have not utilized opportunities to take up other duties at the *Regional and National levels*, and tend to be restricted to 'duties' within the district, which by some reasons, don't get well performed either.
When District/Constituency level leaders (whether party or government) take up roles at the Regional or National levels, it presents the District with other huge opportunities that propel our growth, and as well, give opportunity to fresh
minds to also contribute their quota.

It is therefore imperative for leaders to prepare, nurture, and give opportunity to a pool of dedicated young leaders to carry the mantle, when they are no longer in office. That's a more developmatalist approach to governance to ensure continuity of growth.

I therefore make the following recommendations;
1. Leaders including Assembly Members should endeavour to enlighten their people on their rights, responsibilities, and make them aware of the various opportunities available for grab and how to access them
2. Let us also educate them on the duties of the Local Government authorities, and how best they could hold us accountable
3. Leadership should prioritise raising a more enlightened generation that would put the necessary constructive pressure on leadership to up their game in the district
4. Anybody who has the zeal, knowledge, and commitment to run for any office should be encouraged to do so, and bring his ideas on board to propel the growth of the district. *Politics and governance thrive on competition*. Without competition, *complacency* is the only alternative.
5. Leaders who get the opportunity to serve at the District level should endeavour to take up other duties at the Regional or National level to further enhance our prospects of development as a district.

With this, we shall look back one day, and say to ourselves, "We served diligently".

Thank you

Doom Days Hiding Behind The Laws

By: Richmond Osei Bonsu

What is the Ghana AIDS commission doing about their vision to curb the spread of HIV? If care is not taken, very soon Ghana will have to import HIV free blood for transfusions or HIV screening will no longer be a pre-donation investigation because it will no longer be considered as a disease since almost everyone may have it.

I think the laws governing the *Diagnosis, Declaration of results/status, and the administration of the HAART (HIV Drugs)* to an RVI patient needs urgent and serious amendments.
I am of the view that, as part of measures to prevent stigma against RVI patients, they are in a way given too much legal protection making them spread the infection like St. Paul spreading the gospel of Christ

For instance, a pregnant woman, and a known RVI resisting to take her Anti-retroviral drugs, and no one could force her* to take the drugs.
How about the Innocent foetus???
How do we prevent mother to child transmission???
In addition, how about people who a know HIV positive, living in a community, and deliberately spreading the infection. The law forbids anybody including Health workers* to notify any of the sexual contacts, including their spouse.
I understand the issue of stigma, but how about those who are deliberately spreading it????

*The laws are to protect, but not to give others undue advantage to harm their neighbours*

This is only one of the very few appalling issues.

*Just Thinking Aloud*

Anyway, Abstinence is the golden key*
If u can't, use condom.

R. I. P Captain Maxwell Mahama

Until when will we respond to the knock of civilization on our doors?
Until when shall justice wipe the tears of the orphans, widows etc? And will justice, if prevails, bring the innocent soul back to life? Certainly no...... No amount of justice can ever pay for such a loss.... What a pitty

Until when shall my people learn to forgive?
Until when shall the laws be allowed to take its course?

A plea to the Leadership of the Country and all Law Enforcement Bodies.............

In my opinion, the Lackadaisical attitude of our leaders towards law enforcement and the punishment of culprits have partly contributed to the chaos and lawlessness we see these days.
It is though evident that, Captain is not an armed robber, as earlier speculated among the mob that lynched the astute Military man, let me assume he was really an armed robber. If so, would the people have been justified for lynching an armed robber? Certainly no.... The injustice goes beyond the innocence of Captain Mahama. Even if he was really an armed robber, the people had no right to have done that.
However, the Police, the Judiciary have over the years failed to win the trust and the confidence the public had in them, and see no need in calling for their service in prosecuting cases of this sort. A typical example is the 'freeing of the murderers of J.B Danquah, freeing of the Delta forces, as well as the Montie trio.
If in the face of all these smiling evidence, people still go scort free, how do I expect to win a case with ' scanty evidence'?
Let someone ask how JB Danqua's wife and family are feeling now after the perpetrators have been discharged. Let someone ask what they will do if that thing happens again to them. Certainly, going to court will be the last thing they will do.... Hmmmm lawlessness at its peak, Ghana.

In short, the law enforcement bodies should do well to win the trust of the people, so 'we' don't also put the law in 'our hands' and metting the appropriate punishment to perpetrators in Captain Mahama's case will be a good start.

God Bless Our Homeland Ghana.

SICKLE CELL DISEASE, THE DISEASE OF CHOICE AND A PREVENTABLE CANKER IN OUR CONTEMPORARY WORLD.

Sickle cell disease is an inheritable disease that occurs as a result of abnormalities in the shape and flexibility in the Red Blood Cell, causing it to have a sickle shape. This abnormal shape causes the RBCs to destroy faster (within 60-90 days) compared to the normal RBCs that destroys within 120 days. They also have a difficulty in producing new Red Blood Cells to replace the old ones, and hence, suffer chronic anaemia. People with sickle Cell Disease tend to have intermittent crises presenting as severe bone pain, increased destruction of RBCs (Haemolysis), Severe pain in any part of the body, liver and spleen enlargement, Jaundice, Severe chronic anaemia. It can cause damage to the heart (Sickle cell cardiomyopathy), bones (Avascular necrosis), lungs (acute chest syndrome), eye (Retinopathy) and even the brain. In males, it causes painful prolonged er****on that is not related to sexual arousal (Priapism). This can cause impotence if not treated within four hours. Most people with this disease die before their 25th birthday. However, some are able to grow beyond that, but that comes with other complications such as Avascular necrosis of the hip joint (Death of some part of the hip joint). They normally have several hip surgeries in life. The disease has both social and economic implications on the family. It sometimes affects the child's attendance and performance in school.

It is only inerited when both parents are either Sickle cell carriers (AS) or both have the sickle cell disease(SS / SC), or one is a carrier(AS) and the other has the disease (SS / SC). Two people who are both SS will definitely have all the children being SS (Sickle Cell Disease). If both parents are carriers (AS), every child they give birth to has 25% chance of being SS, 50% chance of being a carrier (AS) and 25% chance of being normal (AA). Carriers with (AS ) do not have crises, but can give birth to an (SS) child if he / she marries another AS.

We refer to the disease as a disease of choice in our current world because,YOU CAN KNOW YOUR STATUS, AND CHOOSE YOUR PARTNER. Tests are available in most health facilities for evryone who wants to know his / her status to check. Knowing your status helps you to plan well for the welbeing and the quality of life of the unborn child.

Any two people PLANNING TO GET MARRIED are encouraged to check and know their status, and then make an informed decision. One greatest gift you can give to your child is to safeguard his/her health as far as you can, even before the child is born. It brings joy to the home and makes the child enjoy a better life. In fact, everyone is encouraged to check his/her status in any available facility.

There is also a routine medication given to all Sickle Cell Disease clients. This helps to reduce the rate of having crises, as well as preventing Anaemia below the steady state. All Sickling positive clients are also encouraged to attend the Sickle Cell Clinic for their routine medications (Folic acid, Vitamin c, Zincovite, Penicllin v prophylaxis). They are also adviced to avoid too cold temperatures, and are to take enough water since dehydration and cold conditions can trigger the attack.

Avoid calling people with Sickle Cell Disease, "SICKLER". It is not approriate, and does not exist at all. Thank you for reading. You can share with others.

"I'm happy to be the FOOLISH old vulture, that did not eat all it came across and saved its life. The domestic fowls thought it joy and ate from the master pot, but before they realized, their bodies were renamed 'MEAT, and thrown into the bellies of their masters. Is the vulture really a FOOL? "
