THE STATUS OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY IN GHANA 2020

The Central Region has recorded a total of three thousand one hundred and ninety-eight (3,198) teen pregnancies from January to May this year.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), drivers, farmers, and teachers continued to be the group of men who are impregnating the teens.

Madam Lydia Acquah, a Nutrition Officer at the Ekumfi District Health Directorate who revealed this, described the situation as ‘very pathetic’ and called for pragmatic measures to be put in place to tackle it.

She was addressing some youth groups in Ekumfi at a day’s step down engagement between youth groups and policymakers on policy development and implementation on youth participation in decision making at Ekumfi.

We talked to a few girls who are dedicated to the lord in Atwima Boko, Kumasi, the causes, effects and prevention of teenage pregnancy. This was for them to acquire more knowledge of the act and save others in their homes, schools and churches.

Children are increasingly becoming victims of sexual abuse. This is because parents find it difficult to enlighten the child at home.
*The* *Keta* *Municipal* *Health* *Directorate* as part of it's numerous efforts to improve mental health and prevent teenage pregnancy has developed a home based counselling guide for parents and teachers.
Regularly ask the child these questions.

1. Mention the two parts of the body.

Ans: Our body is divided into two parts; *private* part and *public* part.

2. *What* *are* *the* *private* *parts* .
Ans: Parts of the body that no one should touch or play with or even see.

3. *What* *part* *of* *the* *body* *are* *private?
*Ans:boys✍* Pen*s,scrotum,anus,buttocks.
*Girls* : vaginal,breast,buttocks,anus and lips.

4*Touches*
5.Mention the two types of touches.

Ans: good touch and bad touch.

6. What is a good touch?
Ans: A touch on any of the public parts.

7. What is a bad touch?
Ans:A touch on any of the private parts.

*Sexual* *abuse*

If someone is trying to touch or play with your private part is called what?
Ans: *Sexual* *abuse*

*Who* are *those* who can abuse you.?

Ans. Any body( mention to child)

*Where*
Can *abuse take*place?*

Ans: anywhere ( mention
'to child)

*What* *do* *abusers* *tell* *their* *victims* ?

Ans: I will kill you
Your mummy and daddy will die if you tell anyone about it.

What will happen to you if someone is abusing you and you don't say it?

Ans: 1.the person will continue to do it to you.

2.You can have mental problem

3.It will affect your schooling.

4.You can become pregnant as a teenager.

5.You will have HIV/AIDS.

3.Don't allow anyone tell you to undress in front of him/ her.

we make great efforts to reduce teenage pregnancy in our country.Yes, our traditional leaders, Assembly members and individuals are stepping up to talk to parents and the youth to desist from immoral acts that may lead to teenage pregnancy.

In Ghana, we do not see clearly where the youth are educated on the causes, effects and prevention of Teenage Pregnancy in the country. It is the collective duty of government, parents, teachers and responsible citizens to educate the youth.
