There are consequences of not having a healthy body weight. Being too slim or fat has its own problems. Nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin B12, iron and folate can result in anemia, impaired immunity and hormonal problems that can alter the menstrual cycle are some consequences of being underweight. For overweight or obesity, osteoarthritis, diabetes, hypertension and the likes are what you are heading towards.
But know this, what is more important is being healthy at every size before you think of losing or gaining weight.
Some few things that can help are taking a look at the number of times you eat, the quantity of food, the food compositions, being physically active, having enough sleep and rest and lastly monitoring and recording progress. Help yourselves with these tit bits.

Healthy body weight
A body weight that is providing you with a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not the mere absence of diseases.
I know you are asking yourself why a healthy body weight? But to simply put having a healthy body weight would save you the stress of going through certain diseases that you could have easily prevented and moreover it allows you to live a perfect healthy life.
Stop asking yourself how do you know if you have a healthy body weight. You can know this by checking some health indicators such as the total body fat percentage, the visceral fats, the lean muscle mass and the simplest one that you can do at home the body mass index.
Measure your weight in kilograms and your height in meters. Square the value of the height. Divide the weight by the height squared. Write whatever value you have down.
Now if the that value is below 18.5 you are underweight, if it's between 18.5 to 24.9 you have a healthy body weight. If it's between 25.0 to 29.9 you are. overweight and if it's 30 and above you are obese.
So now you know where you fall, if u fall anywhere other than a healthy body weight, kindly seek for medical assistance.
NB: these classifications are for adults, thus 18 years and above.
For children and adolescents there is a chart to indicate their growth.
