Why you need to be vaccinated against Covid-19?

COVID-19 spreads quickly and widely. It has resulted in the deaths of over 4.5 million people worldwide and over 206 deaths in The Gambia.
When enough people in the community are vaccinated, it slows down the spread of disease.
Don’t miss this opportunity, get vaccinated. Protect your family and love ones.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CERVICAL CANCER !!

Burden of cervical cancer
•Globally, the second most common cancer in women, and the leading case of cancer deaths in Gambian women.Every year over 569,847 new cases diagnosed and about 311,365 deaths globally, which 85% of the deaths occurred in developing countries.

In The Gambia:
•Access to screening and diagnosis is low, limited, and usually too late (80% of patients come when diagnosis is to late).Among those who were screened in The Gambia, prevalence of HPV infection was 12% and cervical cancer was 32%(2018). However, the burden of this disease is likely much higher than actually known due to the low rate of screening.

The good news is that we have vaccine for this deadly disease that protects our girl child from cervical cancer and ge***al warts. We started the vaccination exercise at the schools shortly before Covid and over 120,000 pupils between 3-6 were vaccinated with dose one but, we are currently facing difficulties to give then their second dose as a result of infodemic.

This vaccine is proven to be safe and we are calling on all parents and caregivers to allow thier girl child within this category to receive their dose 2. Likewise, a starter for those in 3 currently.

Each year 4th February, is commemorated as World Can Day. This year theme “ I Am and I Will”. The message is short but powerful in the sense that it is a reminder of enduring power of cooperation and collective action. When we choose to come together, we can achieve what we all wish for: a healthier, brighter world without cancer.

The Staff of New Yundum continues to educate and inform Mothers on the importance of Cervical Cancer vaccination for the age cohort (9- 15) years and the screening service that the Health offers, by highly skilled personnel.
