Our newest member at STAND Gambia!

🚗 Amie is part of the Community Rehabilitation Team, which plays an important role in:

🦿 Visiting amputees in their own homes
🦿 Providing physio
🦿 Helping fix and maintain their prosthetic legs.

Due to amputees having limited mobility, they don't always have access to the care they need. Home visits provide essential holistic care, helping people adapt and thrive.

We sat down with Amie to find out more:

BIG announcement!

The long awaited rehabilitation centre in Bansang is open! This means:
🦿 more people upriver have access to care
🦿 more people will be able to STAND again
🦿 amputees don't have to travel for a prosthetic leg

Before Bansang, amputees were facing marathon trips to the only rehabilitation centre in Banjul. The hope is this centre will be permanently staffed, so the people of the region have consistent access to care.

Big thanks to Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Welfare and all the people involved in this!

Today we say goodbye to Fatou Njie.

For over 12 years, we had the privilege of working alongside her. From the early days when we were Legs4Africa, she was a pillar of her community — leading the fight against stigma around limb difference and empowering others with courage and dignity.

Her dedication, strength and compassion will continue to guide and inspire us into the future.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family and may her soul rest in peace.

Thank you, Fatou, for everything you gave. You will always be part of our family. ❤️

Meet Bob – head of our maintenance team in The Gambia.

When people with limb differences can’t reach support, we bring the support to them.

He travels straight to the homes of amputees to:
🔧 Repair and adjust prosthetic limbs
🩼 Help people use their assistive devices with confidence
💪 Offer physio support right where it's needed most

Always kind, always dependable – STAND simply couldn’t do what we do without Bob.

“Our work is very very important, because you help people to reduce pressure from them.” – Bob

In The Gambia, access to rehab support is still out of reach for many.

As part of STAND Gambia - We Walk Together's home maintenance team, they travel to people's homes:
🦿 fixing prosthetic legs
🎓 training people to use their new limbs
💪 providing physiotherapy support

“Here in The Gambia, when you are disabled, you have many challenges.”

As president of LEGS – Ladies Empowered for Growth and Success, she’s working to change the way women with limb differences are seen—and treated—in Gambian society.

This Disability Awareness Month, we’re celebrating role models like Fatou who challenge stigma and fight for inclusion.

Support grassroots change makers like Fatou:

🛻 Collected in the UK
🌍 ...now life-changing for a person with limb loss

We urgently need to fund our summer mission - to collect 500 legs across the UK. We're saving them from landfill, because they have the power to transform a life.

Help us save legs & gift mobility to those that need it:
