🎉 The 42nd Ioannina Courses in Pathology (IUCP 2026) opened with a memorable and meaningful first day, dedicated to Liver Pathology: Neoplastic and Non-Neoplastic.
During the opening ceremony, participants were welcomed by Dr. Georgia Kafiri, on behalf of the President of the Hellenic Society of Pathology, Professor Eleni Kourea.
It was a great honor to welcome our distinguished guests and invite them to address the audience:
• The Rector of the University of Ioannina, Professor Anna Batistatou, an esteemed member of the pathology community.
• On behalf of the Municipality of Ioannina, the Deputy Mayor, Professor Sofia Markoula.
• Representing the Medical Association of Ioannina, Dr. Artemis Lambrou, Private Practice Clinical Pathologist.
🕊️ Prior to the Keynote Lecture, a minute of silence was observed in memory of Professor Dimitris Stefanou, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Ioannina.
Professor Stefanou was a prominent figure of the School of Medicine at the University of Ioannina and served for many years as Director of the Laboratory of Pathology.
🎤 The first day concluded with an inspiring Keynote Lecture titled “History of the Liver”, delivered by Professor D. Tiniakos, offering a fascinating perspective on the evolution of liver pathology.
