Therapy, so many times is about intention and presence that it still amazes me how the body (and our multiple planes of being) can find the way(s) to unfold, release pain, transform and get healthier with minimum imput of force.
Of course deep knowledge of the anatomy, biomechanics and physiology is greatly important. These are definetely an important element, when working with the physical body. However, we are so much more than that. And our knowledge is many times limited by our brain's capacity to understand the world in ways that only make sense in a logical, linear way.
Intention and presence of the therapist is equally important as that of the patient. As we are treating people, and not just bodies. The way we can meet and balance the power in the process between who - and under which capacity - is in charge of what part of the session, can turn a good session, into a great session.
The teachings and approach I have embraced and have found to be liberating in my practice, in my capacity as a bodyworker, are mostly the ideas and concepts that were put forward by the work of Dr John Upledger and Craniosacral Therapy.
We are only facititators. We facilitate the healing process of the body and the person, allowing for the person to be in control of the experience while supporting the person's journey into better health and awareness of their bodymind issues. Finding the best way(s) to empower the peson in the process. The body is in charge. The body (person's innate wisdom) is guiding and instructing the session. We are only present to support, facilitate and offer tools - to our best knowledge and capacity - for that to happen.
My journey in body therapy first started with Reiki, from where I moved to Massage, then MyoFascial Release, to Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation. (Plus some years of extensive yoga practice in between that helped me deepen my knoweledge and understanding of concepts like embodiment, somatic experience, energy flow, intention, presence, grounding, centering plus plus plus).
Its been a good 13 years now I have been on this path, and I am still amazed with all the information that comes my way about the human body and the inifinite possibility and potential that can be available to us into moving from pain or malfaction to better health and a more satisfactory experience of inhabiting our body and finding balance and establishing connection in this interwined presence that we are and we can call bodymind.
Gratefull for the teachings. In honor of the teachers.
Be well in your body(mind). Be present. Set yourself free.
