🇬🇧 Endometriosis doesn’t always end with menopause. In some cases, it can continue to affect women’s lives.

Awareness and timely management are key to a better quality of life. 💛

🇬🇧 Pelvic pain that doesn’t improve with common painkillers (such as paracetamol or NSAIDs) may be a sign of endometriosis. This is because endometriosis pain is more different and complex.

🇬🇧 Endometriosis doesn’t always “make sense” when it comes to pain. Small lesions can cause severe pain, while larger ones may go unnoticed.

Endometriosis can look very different from one person to another. For some, it comes with pain so intense that every menstrual cycle feels like a battle, days lost to cramping, nausea, exhaustion, and a body that refuses to cooperate. The discomfort can spill into every part of life, from work to relationships, leaving a quiet shadow over daily routines.

For others, it hides in silence. Cycles seem regular, pain is minimal or absent, and life moves on as usual. Yet beneath that calm surface, the same disease can still be present, small lesions, silent inflammation, slow changes that go unnoticed for years.

Endometriosis doesn’t always announce itself with pain. Sometimes it whispers, sometimes it stays quiet altogether. Both experiences are real. Both deserve to be understood.

🇬🇧 Endometriosis can begin as early as adolescence. There is no “minimum age” for the condition, which is why symptoms in teenage girls should not be underestimated or overlooked.

Surgery for Endometriosis – 10 Key Facts
1. Laparoscopic surgery is the standard technique
Minimally invasive laparoscopy is the primary method used for diagnosing and treating endometriosis. It allows direct visualisation and treatment of lesions with smaller incisions and faster recovery times.

2. Excision is preferred over ablation
Excision involves surgically removing endometriotic lesions from affected tissues. This approach is more effective, particularly in cases of deep infiltrating endometriosis or when endometriosis involves critical structures.

3. Advanced surgical skills are essential
Surgical outcomes are significantly influenced by the expertise of the operating team. Surgeons with specialised training in endometriosis are more likely to achieve complete lesion removal and preserve organ function.

4. Multidisciplinary surgery may be required
In complex cases where endometriosis affects the bowel, bladder, or other organs, a multidisciplinary team approach is often utilised. This ensures thorough management and reduces the risk of incomplete treatment.

5. Imaging supports surgical planning
Preoperative imaging techniques such as transvaginal ultrasound or MRI can help map the extent and location of disease, especially in cases of suspected deep infiltrating endometriosis.

6. Surgery can improve pain and quality of life
Many patients report significant symptom relief after excision surgery. Pain reduction may include improvements in dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, and chronic pelvic pain.

7. Fertility outcomes may improve after surgery
Surgical treatment of endometriosis can improve spontaneous pregnancy rates. Surgery is also used prior to or alongside assisted reproductive techniques.

8. Recovery times vary
Recovery after laparoscopic surgery can range from a few days to several weeks, depending on the extent of the procedure and individual factors.

9. Surgery is best performed in specialised endometriosis centres
Centres with a dedicated focus on endometriosis are equipped with the necessary surgical expertise, diagnostic tools, and multidisciplinary support to manage both routine and complex cases.

10. Complete removal of visible disease is a key objective
Surgical success relies on identifying and excising all visible endometriotic lesions. Achieving this reduces the likelihood of persistent symptoms and may lower recurrence rates.

1. Complex disease
Endometriosis can infiltrate multiple organs: bowel, bladder, nerves.
Requires advanced imaging, surgical, and diagnostic expertise.

2. Surgical expertise
Excision surgery is the gold standard treatment.
Procedures are highly complex and must be performed by trained specialist surgeons.

3. Multidisciplinary team

Specialist centres bring together:
Gynaecologists
Colorectal surgeons
Urology surgeons
Radiologists
Pain and fertility experts
Endometriosis nurses

This team approach ensures coordinated and complete care.

4. Better outcomes

Patients treated in expert centres benefit from:
Fewer repeat surgeries
Better pain management
Improved fertility outcomes
Enhanced quality of life

5. The right place for the right care

Endometriosis is not a “one-size-fits-all” condition.
Specialist centres provide the comprehensive expertise needed for long-term results.

🇬🇧 Chronic fatigue can be a symptom of endometriosis that causes significant discomfort and affects the daily activities and quality of life of women with endometriosis. Especially if it is accompanied by symptoms such as pelvic pain, severe cramps or heavy bleeding during menstruation, it requires further evaluation by a specialist.

🇬🇧 Chronic illness is not a personal failure.

Living with endometriosis means navigating unpredictable symptoms, fatigue, and pain — all of which can affect your energy, focus, and daily performance.

Not functioning at 100% every day does not mean you're weak, lazy, or falling short. It means you're human, living with a complex condition that demands compassion — especially from yourself.
