🦷 “Working with CMA has shown me that dentistry goes far beyond technical skills. It’s about connection, empathy, and using what we know to make a difference.” – Raza, CMA Dental Student Ambassador

As our Dental Student Ambassador, Raza hopes to inspire other students to explore the humanitarian field and discover how much they can grow.

At CMA, dental students can volunteer in a variety of capacities, from assisting our dentists in the clinic to supporting outreach efforts and dental hygiene sessions. It’s a unique opportunity to learn, contribute, and experience dentistry in a humanitarian setting.

You can find Raza’s contact information on our website — feel free to reach out to him if you’re curious about student volunteering with CMA.

💙 Meet Ali and Hussein — our newest team members at our operation in Lesvos.

Ali, from Somalia, and Hussein, from Syria, have joined the CMA team, bringing their invaluable Somali, Arabic, and Turkish language skills to support communication in and around our clinic.

They bring not only their skills but also a lot of positive energy, helping create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

In their free time, Ali enjoys reading and spending time with cats, while Hussein loves football and motorbikes.

We’re very happy to have them with us!

Last week, our ground team went in collaboration with for an outreach in Mavrovouni camp — sharing information about CMA’s healthcare services with the camp's residents.

By walking through the camp, distributing flyers, and explaining our services in person, we make sure everyone knows where to find the care they need — and can ask any questions along the way.

In recent weeks, Lesvos has seen a rise in people arriving to Mavrovouni camp. To make sure everyone knows where and how to access the essential healthcare services provided by CMA, our team carries out weekly outreach.

Outreach plays a vital role in this camp context— many people who have just arrived are still unfamiliar with the services they can access. By sharing information directly within the community, CMA helps ensure that everyone can reach the care they need, when they need it.

On the picture you can see Eva, part of our outreach team, holding our information flyers.

This week, Crisis Management Association was invited as guest speakers at the "Philanthropy, Foundations, and Social Impact Week" hosted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

We shared the core of our approach in humanitarian health—needs assessments, integration, sustainability, and community involvement. But beyond presenting, it was about connecting: exchanging ideas, learning from one another, and exploring how the next generation of public health experts can engage with the humanitarian sector.

Our communications officer Marijke joined the event alongside Heather, an invaluable long-term team member, and Kendra—an inspiring alumna of the T.H. Chan School who also interned with us. Coming together as a team to share our core values reflected the family that stands behind CMA.

For CMA, opening doors for students to take their first steps into humanitarian healthcare is crucial as we strive for a world where access to health is not a privilege, but a right.

“I hadn’t seen a dentist in a long time. When I heard there was a clinic in Mavrovouni, I was very happy. The treatment helped me a lot — I even wanted a photo with the dentists to remember it.”

Stories like this remind us why the dental clinic matters.
