Here are some facts looking back at these photos:

I need new glasses asap. I have had one pair of Ray-Bans ever since I met Martin. But then again, this is what yoga did to me. It made me consume less.
I did my first Botox at 47, just before our wedding. With all the inversions I do in yoga, it lasted exactly 3 months. So I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Either one or the other, so let me think which one I choose. Me 3 seconds later: Yoga! We bought our camper van around 2021, inspired by many of our students who told us stories about their travels in camper vans. One day, a student arrived at the yoga teacher training and said, “I am looking forward to a proper shower. I’ve been traveling for 6 months.” Martin looked at me and said, “What are we doing wrong?” So we bought the camper van and love traveling with it.

Before meeting Martn, I used to take a taxi if I had to walk for 17 minutes. So now walking for me….Or if I told Martin that I was indeed walking, he would say: Joanna, what you do is called window shopping, not walking. So everything changed when Martin showed me the mountains. My maximum at the moment is around 15 km, which is still nothing for some people, but it’s good enough for me. Hey, and there must be a restaurant at the top, so I have something to look forward to.  Martin has hiked for a week, and he is welcome to do it again, but on his own….(He bought an ultra-light tent last year, but it took so many months to decide which one to buy, that the summer was over) We work in beautiful retreat centers, yet we have few photos from those places. I would have to use AI to place myself by the pool on Lefkada Island.

Yoga keeps us young, thin, mentally and physically fit. It also keeps us grounded and helps us make life choices easily. Ashtanga Yoga brought us together in 2016, when Martin was 41, and I was 38. We are a power couple, but still haven’t figured out who the Alpha is. Not that it matters. What matters is that what we have and build is beautiful and gives us purpose and fulfillment.

You land in Greece thinking you’re coming for a yoga teacher training… but you end up finding your people.

Day by day, you start sharing your sweat, belly laughs and late-night talks. Desserts are so delicious, we don’t share them 😀😀
Strangers turn into the ones who cheer when you nail a pose and hold you when it gets emotional.
And the people you thought would be more flexible that you, become your yoga best friend.

By the end of these 3 weeks, you don’t just leave with a certificate—you leave with a community that feels like family.
Save this if you’re thinking of coming alone, and share it with the friend who might end up on the mat next to you.

I can’t do inversions or arm balances, so I’m not ready for YTT.

If that’s you, you’re exactly who this training is for. In 3 weeks, you’ll get the drills, alignment, and support you never get in a drop‑in class—so you finally understand what your body needs.

If inversions are holding you back from applying, message us your questions—we’re happy to walk you through what’s actually required.

My name is Martin Sittek, one of the owners of Alpha Yoga and Joanna made me do this post….

I am an Ashtanga practitioner, an anatomy nerd and I run Alpha Yoga, along with Joanna.
We both left our 9-5 jobs to create Alpha Yoga School and work 24/7 😀😀

I am from the Czech Republic, so I live both in the Czech Republic and in Greece with Joanna. I have lived in the States for 10 years, where I worked as an au pair, then in construction, while visiting all the Notional Parks in my weekends and in my free time.

As a teacher, I am extremely picky about punctuality and messy mats (they need to be aligned).
As a person, I am picky about coffee and colors. Actually no colors. I wear black and grey. It must be the Ashtangi in me 😀😀

Nature is where I love being most of the time. I love hiking, trekking, biking, Via Ferrata, and being outside.
I practice Ashtanga, do fitness, work on my handstands, and a bit of calisthenics.

When Joanna cooks, I wash the dishes.
When I cook, she does the dishes.
Fair enough.

My favorite cuisine is Thai, Vietnamese and Indian.
But I end up eating Romanian and Greek dishes because of what Joanna cooks 😀😀
I am pretty disciplined when it comes to food intake. I make sure I have my protein, lower the carbs intake and avoid desserts. When I put my mind to something, I go for it. I also love challenging myself.

What I love: in terms of work, it’s teaching alignment and adjustments in our 200hrs YTT and seeing the progress of the students over time. In terms of free time: Reading, educating myself, going for walks, listening to podcasts…

What I hate: Stressful movies and bad detective stories

I am definitely a dog person…

Joanna and the students say I am funny, but I don’t think I am. Correct me if I am wrong.

Most yogis wonder whether they will be ready to teach after their 200-hrs yoga teacher training course ends.
In our Teaching Skills & Sequencing module, that question is answered.
In this module, you don’t just memorise a sequence—you learn how to build one from scratch, adapt it to different bodies, and lead it with confidence. You practise sequencing, voice, demonstration techniques, giving options, hands-on assists, and get immediate feedback from the lead teachers (not an assistant)

That’s what sets Alpha Yoga School apart: you don’t go home hoping you can teach—you leave already doing it. We build the whole course around it—so by the end, teaching feels natural, grounded, and confident.

I remember when I did my yoga teacher training(s), I never really learned how to create and lead a class until I did my 300hrs course. And that’s what most yoga schools do - they replace this module with a 2nd evening practice, so you get a lot of asana practice, but you don’t actually learn how to teach. They barely touch on this subject and leave it for their 300hrs YTT. (if they do one)

If your goal is to actually teach after your YTT, this is the work that matters. Small groups, meaningful feedback, and lots of chances to stand at the front of the room. This is why our graduates leave Greece ready—and excited—to teach.

Our next YTT in Greece is waiting for you.

I wouldn’t call my classes creative, even though the students from our 200hrs YTT say that they are…

I prefer structure over variety, repetition over creativity. But here’s a flow that came to my mind, using poses that maybe you haven’t practiced much in a all-level Vinyasa class (which are great to make you move but not necessarily to see progress)

Poses in this flow:
Krounchasana
Bharadvajasana
Parighasana (side body stretch)
Dancing camel
Camel
Utkatasana
Bakasana (straight arms)

Save this flow and follow for more videos like this (more are coming soon)

Stretching and relaxation? Sure. But yoga is so much more than that.

Every challenging pose you see takes serious strength, flexibility, balance, consistency and mental resilience. Let’s not forget sleeping in early, having light dinners, drinking no alcohol, and waking up early - to name a few…

I have learned to adapt my lifestyle to the practice, and not the other way around.
If I hadn’t adapted my lifestyle to the practice, I would practice according to how I would feel that specific day. And my practice would soon be gone!

Oops, I almost forgot about the consistency. Not variety, but consistency. What do you prefer? Variety or consistency?

Training future teachers who understand that yoga is transformation, not just relaxation 🇬🇷

This ⬆️⬆️ is the magic of our Greece YTT locations. In these destinations, you’re not just learning to teach yoga. You’re breathing with the sea, and moving with the mountains.

Every time we step onto the mat and look at these views, something inside us softens.

From sunrises over the Ionian Sea to golden light on the Peloponnese hills, our YTT locations are chosen to support more than just your practice.
Being close to nature helps reduce stress, calm the nervous system, deepen presence, and be fully immersed in the present moment.

Planning a well-rounded yoga class doesn't mean throwing in every pose you know.

Actually, this is
the most difficult class to create, in my opinion, because it’s easy to get overwhelmed. This class is
about creating a journey through the body's FULL RANGE OF MOVEMENT.

Especially the
movements that we don’t do in everyday life.
The key to a successful, well-rounded class?

Swipe through the slides for the full breakdown and save this for your next class planning.
