February is Heart Health Month.

A time to recognize the vital connection between mental well-being and heart health (cardiovascular).

Chronic stress, anxiety, and depression can contribute to high blood pressure, inflammation, and an increased risk of heart disease. Emotional distress can also trigger unhealthy behaviors like poor diet, lack of exercise, and substance use, further affecting heart health.

One powerful example of this mind-heart connection is *Takotsubo cardiomyopathy*, or *broken heart syndrome*. This condition occurs when extreme emotional stress—such as grief, shock, or even intense happiness—causes the heart’s left ventricle to weaken, leading to symptoms that mimic a heart attack, such as chest pain and shortness of breath. While typically temporary, severe cases can lead to complications like heart failure, proving that emotional pain can have real physical effects.

Hi! I΄m Nathasha. I come from a multicultural background that has played a big role in shaping who I am. While I’m South Asian, specifically from India, I spent most of my life growing up in the Middle East. I share this because it often left me feeling like I didn’t quite fit in anywhere.

In the Middle East, I was considered an outsider, even though I felt a deep attachment to the place. At the same time, I didn’t feel fully connected to Indian culture either since I had never actually lived in India.

This sense of being “in-between” became even more complicated when I later moved to Greece, where I had to embrace yet another culture and adapt it into my identity. For a long time, I struggled with the idea of where I belonged.

But over the years, with a lot of reflection, I came to realize that home isn’t tied to a specific place or country. It’s something internal, made up of all the cultures, values, and experiences that have shaped me along the way. I learned that there’s no one right answer to who I am, and I think the same goes for all of us—we are all multidimensional, made up of many layers that reflect different parts of our journey.

If I had to sum it up in one sentence, I’d say: I’m human. And it’s that complexity within each person that drew me to psychology and mental health.

Something I often say as a therapist and a person "I'm curious about.. or I'm wondering.." which got me to explore curiosity mindset. Curiosity isn’t just about learning new things—it’s a powerful mindset that can quiet anxious thoughts and help us feel more grounded. When we shift from fear to curiosity, it opens the door to new experiences, creativity, and even a boost of feel-good dopamine. It’s like a mental workout that keeps the brain sharp and helps us connect better with ourselves and others. It’s something we can practice daily, no matter how big or small the moment. What’s sparking your curiosity today? 🌿🧠✨

Once again, we return back to the hustle and bustle of the week, we can get easily lost in all the busyness and trying to keep up to survive.

It might be really difficult to have space or time for yourself, here is your reminder to try and steal a moment or two to be still, be with yourself, be with your body. You will get back to all the tasks in just a minute but you deserve to pause, to breathe, to be. Lay in bed for that extra 2 minutes, look at the sky and notice the beautiful hues, use that body wash that smells so intoxicating, play that song you like and dance, burn the candle that’s been waiting to be used, smell the vibrant aromas of your favorite drink, notice how your body feels.

It might take a minute or a few, but small moments like these is exactly what helps us manage difficult days or weeks. This is you building resources in yourself to self soothe.

You deserve the small moments as much as the big ones, slow down, take the minute.

In 2023, 1 in 3 women have experience intimate partner violence (either physical or sexual abuse) at least once in her lifetime and 1 in 10 have survived it in the last year, this also represents EU countries.

I start off with this statistic because violence against women and girls continues to remain a silent global epidemic, which goes beyond intimate relationships as we will explore soon, there are several distinct forms of abuse. Violence against women and girls is one of the most common and rising human rights violation committed every single day across the world.

November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, where we bring awareness regarding this ongoing epidemic that so many still experience and advocate for their safety.

The loudest noise you hear during war is that of broken hearts.
- The Psychiatric Times.

War trauma and violence generates an untold amount of psychological distress along with countless other impacts on health and well-being of individuals, especially children and youth. In brief, “war trauma” refers to any traumatic experience that occurs while preparing, living through, witnessing, or serving in a war. It is also important to note that trauma occurs when one is powerless, helpless, and unable to escape a threatening situation.

A quick 1 minute grounding and anxiety activity to help recenter yourself. It can be a great way to also check in with yourself and self soothe any tenseness or overwhelm you may feel. If it is difficult to breathe watching the waves, it may be useful to use your senses to mindfully ground yourself. This means, try and notice the different colors you can observe, pay attention to the sounds of the ocean and the wind, imagine what it might smell like if you were standing at the beach, what the weather might be like on your skin and how the water temperature would feel on your feet. This can be another way you use images to ground yourself and your body. If this is a difficult day or week or you just feel a little different today, this can a time to tune in, self reflect and care for yourself with patience and love. 🤍 🤍
