On this International Mother Language Day, Onda Health proudly honors the Indigenous languages spoken across the communities we serve. Q’eqchi’, Achi’, and Poqomchi’ belong to the K’iche’ branch of the Eastern Mayan language family and are the mother tongues of more than half a million people.

Language is more than words—it carries culture & identity. When patients can express their health needs in the language they know by heart, care becomes safer, more compassionate, and more effective. That is why interpreters are essential to our health work: they bridge understanding, preserve dignity, and help ensure that no one is left unheard.

We’re so grateful for our incredible Interpreter team! 💛

They do so much more than bridge language gaps—they bring a wide range of professional skills to ensure every patient receives truly competent, compassionate care.

Today, Kathy went above and beyond by switching gears from GYN clinic to helping in Intake and interpreting not only verbally, but also in sign language, making sure our patient felt fully seen and understood.

This is what meeting patients 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 looks like. 👏✨

We're back in Purulhá and it's already day two of another busy service week.

When it comes to quality health care, continuity truly matters. Our communities know they can count on our medical mission teams for their health needs. Over the years, our providers have cared for Señora Cristina so consistently that she’s even become a familiar face on our communication materials. Today, we had the delight of showing our newest postcard to Cristina herself—and she was absolutely tickled. Beaming with pride, she asked for a small stack to share with her friends and family, pausing only to giggle and say, “Nos vemos en junio.”
