FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Guam Cancer Care Announces the Relaunch of their Financial Assistance Grant Program - $270,000 in Grant Funds and $147,000 in Cancer Patient Supplies available to Cancer Patients in 2026

(Guam – December 31, 2025) Guam Cancer Care announced today that they will be relaunching their Financial Assistance Grant Program, commonly known as the “Co-Pay Assistance program, effective January 1, 2026. This Financial Assistance Award program gives a quarterly grant award to cancer patients, not exceeding $1200 per quarter, or $4,800 annually, to be used to cover a myriad of direct support services, such as co-payment assistance, transportation, lodging, or even pharmaceutical assistance.

Guam Cancer Care was successful in securing a grant from the Guam Cancer Trust Fund to cover the funding of their direct support programs, to include but not limited to: Patient Navigation, Financial Assistance, Patient Transportation, and Issuance of Patient Supplies. A grant award in the amount of $872,321 was issued to Guam Cancer Care with an effective date of January 1, 2026 to cover the funding of their four direct cancer support programs, as well as funding to implement an aggressive cancer screening program under the auspices of promoting cancer education and outreach to the community of Guam.

In addition to funding the Guam Cancer Care’s Patient Navigation Program, which was key to bringing in FREE oral chemotherapy drugs totaling in excess of $5million dollars annually, Guam Cancer Care has earmarked $270,000 of its grant award to cover financial assistance grant awards and another $147,000 for cancer patient supplies, such as nutritional supplies like Ensure, colostomy supplies, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.

According to Guam Cancer Care’s Executive Director, Terry Cuabo, he states that Guam Cancer Care has been serving the cancer community of Guam for the past 14 years. Programs such as the Financial Assistance Program (Co-pay assistance program) is critical to getting cancer patients access to care.

“We are extremely humbled and greatful to receive grant funding from the Guam Cancer Trust Fund for FY 2026 to ensure the continuity of our key direct support programs. We are extremely greatful to the GCTF to include funding so that we can reimplement the Co-pay assistance program, a program of which Guam cancer patients truly benefit from. Cancer treatment is not cheap and in most cases is unaffordable to the average person living on Guam. This co-pay assistance program “levels the playing field” and gives these cancer patients a fighting chance in beating this deadly disease, so for this I am truly greatful that we can provide some form financial relief they need as they access much-needed care.” stated Cuabo

Funding given to the Guam Cancer Trust Fund, which was established by Public Law 30-80, and redirects 15% of all to***co taxes generated within the Territory be deposited to the Guam Cancer Trust Fund, under the purview of the University of Guam, to be used exclusively to provide direct support services for Guam cancer patients.

For those patients needing direct support services, Guam Cancer Care ask cancer patients to coordinate with both, their cancer clinic and their assigned Guam Cancer Care patient navigator, for further assistance and support. For existing cancer patients currently registered with Guam Cancer Care, we ask that you coordinate with your assigned patient navigator to reactivate their Financial Assistance Program (Co-pay assistance) grant award.

For further information regarding Guam Cancer Care’s programs, please contact their office at 969-2223 or visit them at their website at www.guamcancercare.org.
