Today marked the successful conclusion of an intensive 10-day HIV/STI counselling and training session for healthcare providers in Mahdia, Region 8. This comprehensive training initiative was aimed at strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers in delivering quality, confidential, and client-centered HIV/STI services, particularly in outlying and hard-to-reach regions.

Throughout the training, participants were equipped with enhanced knowledge and practical skills in HIV/STI prevention, testing, counselling techniques, treatment protocols, and the importance of reducing stigma and discrimination within healthcare settings. Emphasis was also placed on ensuring adherence to national guidelines, improving patient engagement, and promoting early testing and linkage to care.

By empowering healthcare providers in Region 8, this initiative contributes to a more resilient and responsive health system, ensuring that individuals in hinterland communities have improved access to essential HIV/STI services. The National AIDS Programme Secretariat remains committed to strengthening capacity across all regions as we continue our efforts toward ending HIV in Guyana by 2030.
