Today we embrace EXTRA:
March 21st marks World Down Syndrome Day:
This day is dedicated to raising awareness and promoting inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that occurs when a person is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21. Instead of the usual two copies, there are three—this is why it’s also called trisomy 21, but with the right support, individuals can live fulfilling, meaningful lives and thrive in their communities.
Rehabilitation plays a huge role in supporting independence and quality of life. It’s not just about “treatment”—it’s about empowering ability:
• Physiotherapy helps improve strength, balance, coordination, and mobility
• Occupational therapy supports daily living skills, independence, and fine motor development
• Speech therapy enhances communication, feeding, and social interaction
• Early intervention is key, it sets the foundation for lifelong growth and participation
At its core, rehabilitation focuses on ability, not limitation, helping each person reach their fullest potential.
Today and every day, we celebrate differences, advocate for inclusion, and choose kindness.
