It's no secret that sleep deprivation (extended wakefulness) is bad for you - but what does it actually do?
The first image shows an MRI scan of a brain after a good night's sleep, whilst the latter shows a sleep deprived one. They show a clear decline in neural activity in the sleep deprived brain; the effects of which manifest in numerous ways.
