Let's talk about vitamin K2...

🦴 Vitamin K2 regulates calcium in the blood by ensuring that it is moved from the blood into the bones, which strengthens them.

👨‍🔬 Vitamin K was discovered in the early 20th century by Professor Henrik Dam, a Danish scientist. He noticed that normal blood clotting required more than just vitamins A, C and D. He also discovered that bleeding problems in animals could be cured with seeds and cereals, and speculated that there was an extra vital nutrient present in these foods.

💊 Vitamin K2 is largely absent from the western diet, so getting enough can be difficult. A dietary supplement may be a good option, especially for people who do not consume meat or dairy products.

According to Dr Nicholas Shenker, Consultant Rheumatologist and member of our scientific advisory board: "Having weaker bones increases the chance of fracture if someone were to fall. Vitamin K2 can help by making bones stronger."

Our national survey on stress and anxiety was very insightful when it came to finding out what people's coping strategies have been, as well as what the main causes of stress and anxiety currently are.

One of the main factors in driving anxiety and worry across the country has been the pressure to ‘return to normal’ quicker than people are comfortable with (29%).

A third of people said that the pressure to ‘return to normal’ has been coming from work, with nearly half of people aged between 35 – 44 (47%) stating that as the reason.

For over 65s the pressure to return to normal is most likely to come from their families, many wanting meet ups and reunions sooner than others are ready for.

But the good news is that there are definitely things that can help when you're experiencing difficult times.

🏃‍♂️ 35% of those surveyed told us they had been exercising more than before
🥗 22% admitting to eating much healthier
💊 10% had turned to health supplements to help them

What have been your own ways of coping during stressful times? Let us know in the comments.

We recently commissioned a national survey on stress and anxiety and discovered that the younger generation are really finding life tough right now.

Almost 90% of people aged 18-34 told us they currently feel stressed - compared to just a third of people aged 65+. Younger people are feeling the pressure in all parts of their lives rating their stress ‘generally’ at a 3 out of 5 in our stress-scale findings.

Younger people are feeling the pressure in all parts of their lives rating their stress at a 3 out of 5 in our stress-scale findings. However, the most carefree are those aged 65+ who score just 1 on the same scale.

Can you relate? Are you a young person who's currently feeling stressed about life, or are you in the over 65s category who are taking things in their stride? Let us know in the comments.

And you can read the full results of our survey here - https://futureyouhealth.com/knowledge-centre/stress-survey

The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is nature.

Like so many of you out there, many of us at FutureYou Cambridge have been using the lockdowns as an opportunity to explore the great outdoors. Whether it's nipping out at lunch time for a stroll around the block or a longer adventure at the weekends, being outdoors has helped to alleviate feelings of stress, worry, anxiety or low mood.

The pandemic has been tough and relentless for us all. But taking time out in nature has provided us with an escape from screens and something to do, especially when we've not been able to see friends and family.

Here are a few of the team's favourite snaps taken in Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex, the Peak District and Hertfordshire.

Let us know how spending time in nature has helped you.
