HKUMed pioneers the integration of lipofilling with breast-conserving surgery to restore body contour and confidence for breast cancer patients】

【🎉 Dedication Ceremony for Tam Wing Fan Medical Development Fund】

The Division of Breast Surgery was honoured to attend the dedication ceremony for the Tam Wing Fan Medical Development Fund. Professor Ava Kwong and Dr Tey Sze Keong represented the Division at the event. We are proud to share that our Division has been awarded the HKUMed Research Collaboration Booster Fund, made possible by the generous support of Mrs May Tam 譚麥美燕女士, in memory of the late Mr Edmund Tam Wing Fan 譚榮芬先生, an HKU alumnus.

The ceremony was officiated by Professor Zhang Xiang, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong; Professor Lau Chak Sing, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health) (Interim) and Dean of Medicine; and Mrs May Tam. 🌟

At the event, Professor Kwong presented our awarded project: “Patient-derived organoids as a living biobank that provides robust model systems toward precision treatment for breast cancer patients: jump into the next dimension.” This cutting-edge platform recreates the unique characteristics of individual breast tumours in the lab, enabling rapid drug testing and biomarker discovery to advance personalised care. 🧬💊

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Tam for her unwavering support. Building on the foundation of the @香港遺傳性乳癌家族資料庫 HK Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry established by Professor Kwong nearly 20 years ago, this new funding will accelerate translational research, foster collaboration, and improve patient outcomes. 🙏💪

Causes and Treatments of Urinary Incontinence】

Urinary incontinence is a common yet often embarrassing health issue that affects many elderly individuals, especially women over the age of 60. Studies show that approximately 13% to 21% of adult women in Hong Kong experience urinary incontinence. For men, this condition may occur after undergoing prostate surgery.

Dr. Thomas Wong, Honorary Clinical Tutor of the Department of Surgery, HKUMed, was recently invited on RTHK’s program Doctor and You to explain the symptoms and available treatment options.
