Our Mission
We aim to create quality products, sourced from local produce in Cambodia, that are loved and used by people throughout the world. There are many products currently used in Cambodia that have their origins in traditions and historical practices. Throughout Cambodia’s rich history, a variety of products such as herbal medicines, silk fabrics, and handicrafts have been developed and widely used in Cambodian society. Despite experiencing the turmoil of wars and social strife, many artisans have been able to guard cultural practices and continue to create traditional products. Now, as the country is experiencing unprecedented economic growth, many young Cambodians are leaving behind traditions in order to pursue a modern lifestyle in the city. Our goal at Demeter is to help preserve part of Cambodia’s beautiful heritage. We seek to reintroduce traditional practices and products as an alternative modern lifestyle and promote the idea of a tradition based modernism as, “An Alternative Space for Comfort.” Just as the Greek god “Demeter” is the symbol of fruitfulness and is known as ‘mother earth’ in Greek mythology, here in Cambodia we aim to create products and support lifestyles that are in harmony with tradition and nature.
