Went to Art Central VIP Preview.
Somehow ended up getting Samantha Ko Hoi Ling to take a photo of me. She was the nicest about it too. Just walked up and asked — zero hesitation from her.

| SEE WHAT THE SYSTEM MISSES |

Honoured to be invited by The University of Hong Kong FemSTEM as keynote speaker on March 21, 2026. As a contemporary Qinghua (blue-and-white porcelain) artist, I addressed female students in STEM on how their skillset opens doors far beyond traditional tech careers.

That invitation itself tells a story. When a leading engineering faculty turns to an artist to expand their students' horizons, something has shifted in how institutions understand innovation.

Drawing on the World Economic Forum's 2030 skills, my core message was simple: The future doesn't belong to people only good at technology, nor people only good at dreaming. It belongs to those who can code — and see what the code is missing.

To bridge the gap between high art and high performance, I grounded the session in tactile and philosophical frameworks:
🔹 The Garlic Experiment: A tactile opening to awaken sensory awareness.
🔹 Qinghua (Blue & White): Encoding meaning and layered intentionality that resists reduction.
🔹 Kintsugi: The principle that what has been broken and repaired with care becomes more valuable, not less.

The most rewarding moment? Hearing from the FemSTEM student chairlady:
"As a mechanical engineering student, I think it's really important for us to consider all the people, not just get lost in making the technology better."

This is the work I do — through keynotes, experiential workshops, and long-term institutional collaborations. If your organisation is asking how to cultivate this human-centric capacity and cognitive resilience in your people, I welcome the conversation.

Why was an artist invited to speak at HKU full of scientists and engineers?

Because the future doesn't belong to people only good at technology, nor people only good at dreaming. It belongs to those who can code — and see what the code is missing.

We live in a world obsessed with upgrading systems, algorithms, and efficiency. But what happens when we get so lost in making the technology better that we forget the humans using it?

My message to these brilliant future engineers was simple: See what the system misses.

I opened with a tactile experiment of peeling garlic. I drew on two frameworks from my ceramic practice — the layered intentionality of Qinghua brushwork, and the Kintsugi principle that what's been broken and repaired with care becomes more valuable, not less.

Afterwards, the student chairlady wrote:
"As a mechanical engineering student I think it's really important for us to consider all the people, not just get lost in making the technology better."

Seeing these analytical minds resonate with an artist’s perspective gives me so much hope for the future they will build.
