Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac dysrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation (VF) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (VT). A defibrillator delivers a dose of electric current (often called a counter-shock) to the heart. Although not fully understood, this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the dysrhythmia. Subsequently, the body's natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart is able to re-establish normal sinus rhythm. A heart which is in asystole (flatline) cannot be restarted by a defibrillator, but would be treated by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

ازالة الرجفان القلبي Defibrillation، هو علاج شائع لخلل النظم القلبية، الرجفان البطيني، وتسرع القلب البطيني عديم النبض. يتم الاجراء عن طريق استخدام جهاز إلكتروني يقوم باعطاء صدمات كهربائية للقلب تساعده على ازالة الرجفان، حيث يساعد على اعادة انتظام ضربات القلب.

وهو اجراء لمعالجة الرجفان – المهدد للحياة، إذ قد يؤدي الرجفان إلى توقف القلب، ويجب البدء به على الفور بعد تحديد أن المريض يعاني من حالة طارئة في القلب (لا يوجد لديه نبض). لا يجب استخدام الجهاز إذا كان المريض مستيقظاً، أو إذا أمكن تحسس النبض. كما لا يجب وضعه على ث*ي المرأة أو على جهاز تنظيم ضربات القلب.

إن الرجفان يؤدي إلى وقف ضخ الدم من القلب، مما يؤدي إلى تلف الدماغ و/أو السكتة القلبية، كما يتم فقدان ما يقدر ب 10 % من القدرة على اعادة تشغيل القلب مع كل دقيقة يستمر في الرجفان، قد يؤدي إلى الوفاة في غضون دقائق إذا لم يتم استعادة ايقاع القلب الطبيعي.
