What is ‘flotation therapy’?
Flotation therapy is a beautiful sensory deprivation experience that lets floaters achieve a deep level of relaxation with incredible health benefits.
The tank is filled with Epsom salts and body temperature water. It’s light and soundproof so that the floater is left completely at peace, floating easily in the tank. The water is kept at a low level, and dim lights inside the tank keep the floater feeling safe and relaxed.
Based on the theory of Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique (REST), flotation therapy is a relaxation method that reduces the brain’s response to external stimuli such as gravity, light, sound and room temperature.
This sensory deprivation allows the mind and body to focus deeply within, and the floater can attain a level of relaxation similar to an experienced meditator or yogi – without all those years of training!
What are the benefits of flotation therapy?
After several flotation sessions, many floaters report better sleep, increased optimism and creativity, as well as decreased anxiety, depression and pain. Other benefits include muscle recovery and an increase in immune health – pretty amazing stuff!
