Discover North Sumatra As a local guide based in Berastagi, I offer you guided treks to the local volcanoes, hot springs, traditional batak villages and multi-day jungle-trips.

Ismail „Smiley“ Lubis is a local guide based in Berastagi / North Sumatra. Over the years, he was able to acquire lots of experience, arranging tours and treks around Berastagi and central Sumatra. Being a member of the Batak tribe, he has a profound knowledge of local history and culture but also the characteristic Sumatran nature. His specific know-how of the medical effect of domestic herbs growing in the jungle gives him his nickname Dr. Smiley. He also guided film crews into the deep rain forest shooting documentaries about wild Sumatran animals and the volcanic activity in the surroundings of Berastagi. He was also involved in a documentary about Greenpeace and is part of the Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS). As a local guide he offers you to visit local Batak villages, watch an impressive sunrise from the top of a volcano and experience the wildlife of the jungle first hand. To make your trip even more comfortable, Smiley also also arranges both pickup and drop-off at the nearby Medan Airport, accommodation in Berastagi or transfer to other destinations in Sumatra.
