It may be a small group, but every moment is full of big lessons 🦧

Even at a young age, each orangutan shows their own character—curious, bold, or cautious. These early traits influence how they respond to new environments. In nursery groups, they learn by observing, trying, and repeating gradually building the confidence needed for life in the forest.

Can orangutans be startled? Yes, they can.

Like humans and other primates, orangutans have a natural startle response to sudden sounds or movements. In the wild, this instinct helps them stay alert and avoid danger.

For some rescued orangutans, however, these reactions can be stronger. Many arrive after experiencing the loss of their mothers and stressful environments, making them more sensitive to unfamiliar situations.

With time, patience, and consistent care, they gradually learn to feel safe again—slowly rebuilding their confidence as they continue their journey back to the forest🦧

---

Bisakah orangutan merasa terkejut?

What may seem simple a boat, a technician, and a few pieces of food is part of a daily routine to ensure the orangutans on the sanctuary islands receive the nutrition they need.

Supplementary feeding takes place twice a day as part of long-term care for orangutans who cannot be released back into the wild helping them stay healthy and well.
