As I drive to work, just after 7am, not far down the street I pass a group of people gathering around a man and his push bike. Bamboo 4 Africa is a partnership to promote the notion of bamboo as sustainable resource for regenerative farming and construction. After a month in Africa, I found a renewed sense of purpose and a healing, igniting my vision for a community-centric initiative for caregivers of children with special needs. My journey has illuminated a path towards creating collaborative support systems where all contributions are valued. The Bamboo4Africa program aims to combine sustainable construction with community care, creating inclusive spaces for learning and growth. Events planned for 2025 will foster connection amongst diverse participants, promoting a model that emphasizes shared responsibility and sustainable living for all.

Here the first time I got out of the village in I dont know how long... since I just went for a ride somewhere... And having Minagi superhero volunteer) and Haroon our bamboo student. So glad I took these moments to be out in nature and reconnect with her.
I've had myself under the freaking pump trying to make a proposal to start the project at Gili Meno. And, well, I give up finally. Even though definitely super-hero Minagi would not say such a thing... I can not do it alone and I can't pretend to know what it's going to look like and I dont want to give anyone false expectations and I dont want to lose my family over them thinking I'm an idiot for taking on such a thing. But I have. And feel like I've aged 20 years in the last 6 months just from not moving... every morning practically waking up early to write. But I never feel ready and I've got nothing to show for it it feels... just lost my 10k deposit and am writing a letter to the lawyer/notaris because they said the land could be built on - but its farm land. And she said I would be able to buy the land in the name of my company and that the government will revoke the law that was passed just before I placed my deposit. Anyway, at least there are tequila trees in Bali (apparently)...

Find myself in a conference run by United Nations in Bali where they are very much pushing social inclusion of people with disabilities in the creative economies... of which Indonesia is a leader in the world with annual income from creative industries hitting 250 billion USD per year.

Hi friends,
This is a podcast link featuring Alan and Joey. A special needs Dad and his son who live here in Bali. Alan is looking for long term care solutions and quality of life and we have been talking about the establishment of a program and facility in Bali which can support his son Joey's care needs at present and also into the future. Our missions have very similar parallels and Alan is hosting a workshop that will be held next week as a step towards finding other parents and collaborators.
We hope to get 5-10 people to attend the workshop. The next step will be to establish a community on-line and then share the vision for a facility in Bali.

I’m a parent of a 16 yo Special Needs daughter FREYR - with Rubinstein Taybi syndrome - which has similarities with aspects of Autism, Downs syndrome and Cerebral Palsey, some sensory issues (under-stimulated), Intellectual different-ability and low muscle tone, balance and co-ordination impediments. Freyr is non-verbal and uses picture cards, signing and some vocal approximations to communicate.
I currently live i Bali where she attends the sunrise school which to me, is like a Steiner school in a special needs classroom environment. We love living here and i pay local carers to help me with her.
I have a Vision to create an inclusive village co-operative project here in Bali where families can come and stay and have a supported holiday… starting with one or two weeks a year (preferably a month) and graduating to more or less permanent living for our kids in 3-5 years when all buildings are built and we reach capacity with training carers and facilities.
So I’d like to start by inviting other families who are interested in this concept to travel with their “kids” to Bali, to join us and to discuss and develop the idea further and become more involved. I intend to set up an International not-for-profit Co-operative to manage the timeshare and financial side of the project and in collaborating with other families, discover our path to Collaborative Community. "Value Contribution" to the Co-operative time-share can be through financial means and/or in-kind means through sharing professional skills and services. I intend for the project to be fully accessible to any income-tier.
I have a HelpEx listing which outlines how helpers may contribute in an in-kind way at the “ground zero” level of this project. And I’m working with local Indonesians to create aspects of the project. If you would like to find out more, feel free to email me at friendsoffreyr@gmail.com
