Bali Belly caught up with me.
For a few days, it stopped me completely.
No adventures. No movement. Just a bed, water, and patience.
But this is part of the journey.
When you travel, especially in tropical places like Bali, your body meets new bacteria, different hygiene standards, new water sources, and unfamiliar food preparation.
What is Bali Belly?
It’s a traveler’s digestive infection, usually caused by bacteria (like E. coli), contaminated water, ice, unwashed vegetables, or undercooked food. Sometimes even just a sudden change in diet.
How to prevent it:
– Drink only sealed bottled water
– Avoid ice unless you’re sure it’s purified
– Wash hands often
– Be careful with raw salads
– Choose busy, reputable places to eat
– Support your gut with probiotics
If it happens:
– Hydrate constantly (electrolytes help a lot)
– Rest
– Eat simple food (rice, banana, toast)
– Use rehydration salts
– If symptoms are severe or last longer than 3–4 days, see a doctor
For me, it was a reminder.
The body always has the final word.
I’m feeling good again.
And I’m slowly returning to the normal rhythm of discovering.
The journey continues. 🌿
