KERAMAS BEACH || Surf A Word Class Wave At Night
Keramas Beach is located in Keramas Village, south part of Gianyar City. The original name of the area was in fact Kuramas, the Golden Turtle, coming from the combination of “kura “ which means turtle and “mas” which means “gold”, as long ago turtles would come to bury their eggs in the warm black sand. Later the name changed into Keramas, the Golden Monkey (from “kera” which means “monkey” and the “mas” still meaning gold), but where those monkeys went and why remains a mystery.

But what is indeed no mystery is that Keramas Beach has rapidly become one of biggest superstars on great surf spots in Bali. Not only in early morning, surfers can also battling the amazing waves at night.

THE GREAT GIANYAR PALACE
The old palace, visible through a gate, is in the middle of town facing the alun-alun. Still a private residence, prior permission is required to visit. First built in 1771 on the site of a priest's house, it barely survived a number of 19th-century wars, but was destroyed by the 1917 earthquake. Rebuilt in the 1920s, it's one of the few traditional and best preserved Balinese palaces still existing, and one of few still lived in by a royal family. Its spacious courtyards are decorated with stonework and carved wood pillars. Visit the western courtyard, with its two impressive gates and gilded bale. While tourists are not usually allowed inside, you might convince the guard to let you have a quick look (otherwise the views are good through the wrought-iron gate). In the alun-alun (court across from the compound) stands awaringin (huge banyan) tree, an all-important symbol of Balinese and Javanese royal courts.
