Rachel House (Yayasan Rumah Rachel) is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to ensure palliative care is available and accessible for everyone with life-limiting conditions in Indonesia. Every child’s birthday carries their dreams and hopes on the wings of laughter and joy.

But, for some of Rachel House’s children, this birthday may be their last, and for most of our children, birthday cakes are impossible dreams.

10 years ago, when Tiar heard this, she decided that every child at Rachel House deserves to
have a special birthday cake - and that she would bake their dream cake herself! And so begins
the tradition.

Now, with the help of Sinana Delight, our children are presented with the most beautiful cakes of
their dreams, blowing out candles embraced by the love baked into every slice.

These aren’t just cakes; they’re slices of love and joy, made especially according to each child’s
wish 🎂✨

Crafted with love and care, these cakes often arrive when the children need joy the most. They
brighten hospital rooms and tiny homes, bringing laughter to anxious hearts, and remind every
child that even in the hardest of times, there’s always something sweet to look forward to.

We’re endlessly grateful to Tiar and Sinana Delight .delight for filling our
children’s special days with sweetness, laughter, and light. Your kindness continues to warm
every corner of their hearts, reminding each child that they are seen, celebrated, and deeply

Pain should never be a child’s daily reality.

Yet in Indonesia, close to 700,000 children live with serious illnesses - and less than 1% have access to pain relief or palliative care (source: WHO, WPCA, 2014)

Rachel House exists to change this story.

Whispers of Hope (.id) was founded by a group of passionate middle & high school students, who believe that age should never be a barrier to making a difference. They saw the struggles of vulnerable children and chose to take action - sharing care packages with nutritious meals and supplements - bringing sparks of hope to many whose lives are in despair.

On 12 - 19 September, they will be holding a bazaar where the entire proceeds will be dedicated to support children living with serious illnesses at Rachel House.

JNY Cup 2025 is more than just a biennial tradition at Jakarta Nanyang School, it’s a celebration of spirit, friendship and community.

This year, a group of JNY students is turning that spirit into compassion by dedicating a fundraiser during the peak of the event (August 30–31), to bring hope to seriously ill children cared for by Rachel House.
At the JNY Bazaar of JNY Cup 2025, booth will dish up love and compassion in their sweet and tantalising desserts and specially concocted drinks. But behind every treat lies something deeper: a message of care, kindness, and solidarity. Every purchase will help provide comfort and support for children living with life-limiting illnesses; because, when we share, hope grows 🌸

When the rain falls, some of us may feel grateful for the cool breeze.
But for Deandra* and Popo, rain used to bring fear — leaking roofs, flooded floors, and Deandra, who lives with weak and compromised lungs, would struggle even more to breathe.

Exasperated with their condition at home, Deandra lamented to Zakky, a Rachel House nurse, that “if I had money, I would build Popo a home that never leaks. So she never has to worry again.” A wish he holds for his beloved grandmother, his only-surviving family member.

Then one day, hope knocked on their tiny door. A generous-hearted donor brought miracles into their lives. With Rachel House’s support (read next week’s story), their roof is fixed and Deandra’s wish is fulfilled.

Their home may still be simple, but it no longer brings fear when the rain comes.
Because love now protects them, and helping hands are always nearby.

Now, it’s our turn.

Helping seriously-ill children live pain-free

Founded in 2006, Rachel House (Yayasan Rumah Rachel) has pioneered palliative care in Indonesia for seriously-ill children. We provide home-based palliative care services to seriously-ill children with Cancer and HIV AIDS free of charge.

In addition, we educate and equip medical professionals and local communities with palliative care skills and knowledge to provide care for those in need. We advocate at a national and international level for improved access to palliative care for all Indonesians regardless of income, illness or education.

Right now, there are close to 700,000 seriously-ill children in Indonesia, but less than one percent currently has access to pain relief or palliative care.

Palliative care is a specialised medical care for people with serious illness and their families - providing pain and symptom management and emotional, social and spiritual support - so that patients can live pain-free and with optimal quality of life.
