”Stretching without hyperextending with Bikram Yoga poses”
Exploring 26 + 2 for better mind and body balance, integration, and connection.
Why it’s important to avoid hyperextending in the practice of the poses?
Hyperextending can create forced movement of a joint beyond its normal anatomical range of motion, often causing injury to ligaments, tendons, or muscles. Commonly affecting the knees, elbows, spine and fingers or toes and referring to over mobility.
Joint hyperextending often happens when you do isolated stretching without applying an important mechanism called reciprocal inhibition which training neuromuscular reflex where the activation of an agonist muscles.
The key is by integrating muscles to reduce joint resistance and prevents muscle strain by balancing opposing muscle forces.
