•Exercise is a vital strategy in the prevention and management of osteoporosis when appropriately prescribed.
•For the healthy individual whose goal is to prevent osteoporosis, lifelong exercise including regular, brief, weight-bearing, high-impact exercise and high-intensity Progressive Resistance Training (PRT) is recommended.
•It is also recommended that a variety of activities are undertaken, so the skeleton continues to be exposed to unfamiliar patterns of loading.
•Adequate calcium and vitamin D will complement exercise programs for musculoskeletal health and function.
•High load PRT and moderate impact loading may not only improve bone mass and reduce kyphosis but be safe and well-tolerated in older adults with low bone mass.

“IS RUNNING BAD FOR YOUR KNEES?”
A recent study investigating the effect of cartilage on knee cartilage in the journal ‘physical therapy in sport’ suggests running may have more advantages than disadvantages to knee cartilage. The main findings were that running caused a short term (30 minutes) adverse effect on cartilage but that this disappeared within 1-2 hours. Suggested benefits of running included promoting nutrition into the cartilage and helping to remove metabolic susbstance. All this has to be taken in context of course, nevertheless interesting food for thought.

From Rehabilitation, to Strength & Conditioning, Tom Quinn Sports Medicine provides a service with all you need from injury all the way to a return to performance and activity.
After a muscular injury, starting rehab 2 days after the initial injury has been shown to speed recovery by up to 3 weeks when compared to waiting 9 days, an average timeframe for people seeking rehab post injury.
➡️This difference was found in a study by Bayer et,al 2017 where early versus delayed rehabilitation plan implementation between two groups given identical plans were observed.
