This painting depicts the Irish goddess of healing Airmid.
It represents lots of things for me personally, too. Airmid’s profile is inspired by my niece Georgie, who is studying to become a paramedic. This conveys my gratitude to all the exceptional medical front liners, particularly my oncology nurses who care for me with the greatest dedication. The myriad of medicinal flora adorning Airmid are plants representing my healing and the abundance of love I receive from my family and friends. The fox and robin stitched into her cloak are my mother and father’s spirit animals. The stitching establishes the strength of connection I have with my parents on my healing journey. The white knight is one of many I visualise going in and zapping the tumours with their lances when I have chemo.
Again stitched into the fabric, my knight demonstrates the bravery and strength essential to conquering this battle with cancer. A sun shines above the knight and this represents my oncologist- Ray. He is my Ray of light and gives me optimism and hope. The blue area Airmid gazes out to are a sea of healthy cells-my projection of a clear and healthy future. These visualisations have kept me centred. They galvanise my strength as I tread a positive and creative journey to healing.
