I’ve had a really busy week in the clinic seeing clients with histamine intolerance, a lot more than usual. So here’s a little bit of information 🤧

• Histamine isn’t exactly a genuine allergy but more typically associated with the bodies ability to break down histamine.

• Histamine is a natural chemical involved in immune responses, stomach acid production, and acting as a messenger between nerve cells. It’s also found in many foods (especially aged, fermented, or processed ones).

•Symptoms of histamine intolerance:

They can look like allergies or other conditions:
Headaches or migraines, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, hives, skin flushing, itching
digestive problems (bloating, diarrhea, cramps, reflux) to name a few.

Causes can be due to genetics, imbalanced gut bacteria, ingesting high histamine foods and medications.

Eliminating high histamine foods, introducing DAO enzyme supplementation and certain nutrients may be of benefit 😊

Today is International Nurses Day 🩺💚

My years in nursing gave me a strong foundation — clinically, emotionally, and professionally. It shaped how I work with people, how I hold space, and how I approach healing from a whole-person perspective.

That experience still underpins my work as The Holistic Nurse, It taught me how to listen carefully, support people through difficult moments, and combine practical knowledge with a more intuitive, body-led approach.

To all the nurses out there — your work makes a difference. Every single day. I’m beyond grateful for my experiences in nursing and mental health and how it has guided my current work and practice.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence based form of psychotherapy that is to be delivered by a licensed mental health practitioner. It is a type of therapy that helps people heal from trauma and distressing experiences. It works by having you briefly focus on a memory while following back-and-forth eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation. This helps your brain process and “re-wire” how the memory is stored, reducing its emotional impact.

EMDR helps people struggling with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, and low self-esteem—especially when linked to past experiences.

Happy international women’s day to all the courageous women who continue to show up every day, defying societal norms despite being disproportionately affected by harassment, gender based violence, medical misogyny, poverty, employment and education and negative stereotyping.

It’s estimated that gender equality won’t be achieved until 2322.

Not a single country in the world has achieved gender equality.

Over 1.2 billion women and girls live in places where safe access to abortion is restricted.

12 million girls under the age of 18 are married each year.

Over 380 million women and girls are living in extreme poverty.

Every 11 minutes a women or girl is killed by a member of her own family.

This very beautiful client has allowed me to share her before and after photos. She had attended the clinic early December after experiencing major issues with her skin, in particular her scalp. There was excessive oozing, irritation, redness, flaking and a strong odour. Said client would describe her scalp as “soaking wet with oil after washing it’”. After numerous GP visits she had been placed on oral antibiotics and nizroal shampoo, this would heal the affected area for a short period of time however once the antibiotics had worn off the symptoms re surfaced. During testing the client tested for fungus, we discussed the importance of gut health in managing skin issues and I suggested that said client adopt a dairy free/ sugar free diet. I further recommended 3 remedies to help with the healing of her skin and scalp hygiene, after 6 weeks the client noticed a remarkable improvement to the affected areas. After just one session the areas in question appeared to have healed substantially with only a very small area of dry skin.
