Funeral will arrive to the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St. Nathy Ballaghaderreen, Saturday for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon.

Cremation afterwards in Lakelands Crematorium Cavan.

To be standing in this church again, less than two weeks after we came together to say goodbye to our beloved Mam Olive, is something we could never have imagined. The shock and beartbreak of losing Dad so soon after Mam bas left us utterly devastated, our lives have been turned upside down.

Your presence here today again means more to us than words could ever express. The prayers offered, the quiet kindness shown, the messages, support and compassion from so many people have been a source of strength for us.

While our hearts are broken, we take some comfort in the thought that Mam and Dad are together again, reunited after only a short time apart.

Olivia, Ray, Christina and Mary, together with their families along with Martina and the extended Dowd family, wish to express their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has gathered bere today to support them once again.

Predeceased less than 2 weeks ago by his beloved wife Olive, his parents Timothy and Mary and his brothers Joe and Pat, he will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his children Olivia (Michรฉal), Ray (Orlagh), Christina (Christopher) and Mary (Gary), his grandchildren Molly, Jamie, Jessica, Alex, Ruby and Ollie, his sister Martina, brother-in-law Jim, sister-in-law Josie, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends.

Tim will lie in repose in The Kilgarriff Funeral Home Ballaghaderreen, Friday evening from 5 o'clock to conclude with evening prayer at 7 o'clock.

Funeral will arrive to the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St. Nathy Ballaghaderren, Saturday for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon.

Today, Ballaghaderreen says goodbye to something far more than a shop โ€” we say goodbye to a piece of history.

Since 1943, Toweyโ€™s Shop has been woven into the fabric of daily life in Ballaghaderreen. For generations, it was never just a place to pick up bread or milk โ€” it was a meeting place, a sounding board, and often the first stop for news, advice, or simply a friendly chat. Toweyโ€™s was the centre of the town โ€” a true hive of activity where stories were shared and friendships were formed.

Over the past few days, the outpouring of heartwarming tributes and well wishes across social media platforms has been truly moving. The stories, memories, and words of gratitude shared by so many speak volumes about the extraordinary impact Imelda and the Towey family have had on this community. We are honoured and delighted to add our sentiments to those tributes and to be associated with the many messages of appreciation.

We have been privileged to work alongside the Towey family through the years. We have forged a strong working relationship and, most importantly, a valued friendship. We have witnessed first-hand the quiet kindness and compassion Imelda showed time and time again, often away from the public spotlight. In moments of difficulty or crisis, she never hesitated to go that little bit further for someone in need. So much of what she did was done without fuss or recognition โ€” simply out of genuine care for her neighbours and friends.

As the shop door closes for the final time, it truly marks the end of an era โ€” but the memories, the friendships, and the countless quiet acts of kindness will live on in the hearts of the people of Ballaghaderreen.

To Imelda, and to the memory of Mattie and Annie, we offer our sincere thanks. Your contribution to this town has been lasting and meaningful.

It feels only fitting to borrow these words from W.B. Yeats:

โ€œThink where manโ€™s glory most begins and ends,
And say my glory was I had such friends.โ€

Imelda, you have given so much to this community โ€” and in return, you retire with the friendship, respect, and gratitude of an entire town.
