Pray for the repose of the soul of PATRICK REGAN

Glenside, Pennsylvania
and formerly of Shraheens, Kilmovee, Co. Mayo.

August 25th , 1941 - April 21st , 2026

Loving husband of Brigid (née O’Donnell). Loving father of Sheila, Maggie (Kevin), Bern (Lauren), John (Kate), and Holly (Bobby Meyers). Adoring grandfather of Emma, Charlotte, Ciaran, Cullen, Sophie, Annabelle, and Fiona. Also survived by his sister, Margaret Ward and was preceded in death by 7 siblings.

He was a family-oriented man and a dedicated hard worker who took great pride in caring for those around him. He always enjoyed a full house, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, friends, extended family, and neighbours. He welcomed everyone with open arms—and often a beverage in hand—making all feel at home in his presence. Kind-hearted and generous, he would do anything for his family, friends, and neighbours. He truly had a heart of gold.

Pat, Dad, and Granja was the kindest soul you could meet. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. You could often find him out mowing lawns or ploughing snow, always looking out for others. He had a smile for everyone and never a bad word to say about anyone.

He was also a passionate sports fan who loved his Mayo GAA, the Philadelphia Flyers, and just about any sporting event. When his game was on, everyone knew—it was a time of excitement, focus, and unwavering loyalty.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

May He Rest in Peace.

A brief history of Sharkey Funeral Directors

Written by Tom Sharkey III of Sharkey Funeral Directors, the following article appeared in an industry journal in 2003.

Sharkey Funeral Directors, 100 years of caring tradition.

Tom Sharkey & Sons have been funeral directors for more than four generations. At the beginning of the last century Tom Sharkey I, was the proprietor of an extensive business in Ballaghaderreen that included sawmills, forge, coach building, joinery and coffin and casket manufacturing works.

In those early years funerals were relatively simple for the funeral director (or undertaker) in that the usual order simply consisted of coffin, habit/shroud and hearse. It was therefore a natural progression from making coffins to follow onto a complete undertaking service. So he purchased a horse drawn hearse and established himself as an undertaker. Before long he needed additional hearses and ended up with four, which consisted of two “Town Hearses” and two “Country Hearses” and the appropriate accompany of carriages for mourners. The Town Hearses were not, as the name would suggest used for town funerals only, rather they were used for all funerals. For long journeys the Country Hearses were used because they had a much lighter structure and were less tiring on the horses.
