I completely subscribe to this. When degenerative changes show up on imaging, symptoms are straightaway linked to those. Even if functional assessment shows a different origin for the problems.

I would very much subscribe to the information in this article. I am however also convinced that core stability can very much reduce the pressure on our spine and therefore long-term reduce the degenerative changes in our spines. Due to our lifestyle we are overall weaker than we would be if we were still Hunter/Gatherers and so many people have lost the control over how their spines and bodies can move. Pilates, if done well, is one way of re-learning this co-ordination of our movements. Pilates is, contrary to what is often said, not only about core strength, it is about regaining control about your body and optimizing your movements in 're-activating "forgotten" muscles and therefore reducing the strain on those muscles that are trying to compensate.
