Your child understands your inner world far more than we realise.
Before they have words, babies and young children communicate through neuroception — an unconscious scanning system that picks up breath, tension, tone, facial expression, and even your level of certainty.
So when you shift from worry to taking action, your body changes.
Your breath softens.
Your posture settles.
Your tone of voice becomes warmer.
Your intention becomes clear.
And your child feels that.
A parent told me recently that she had been meaning to message me for weeks because her child screamed every time she went into the car seat.
But by the time she finally reached out, the screaming had stopped.
What changed?
She did.
When she decided to get help, her nervous system shifted from overwhelm to leadership.
And her child felt that shift with complete sensitivity.
Children co-regulate with us.
They borrow our nervous system until theirs matures.
So even small internal changes — clarity, confidence, groundedness — send powerful cues of safety to them.
Sometimes healing begins not in the clinic,
but in the moment a parent chooses to act.
If you feel stuck, unsure, or overwhelmed, please know:
You don’t need to have all the answers.
The first step is simply deciding to take the next step.
Your child feels that care long before you say a word.
