We are delighted open a second Neurodivergence, Trauma and Substance Use course, run in conjunction withTSK Academy, for enrollments. Contact Naomi to book your place.
Clients accessing substance use services are disproportionately likely to be neurodivergent, particularly Autistic and ADHD individuals, many of whom are undiagnosed or late diagnosed. When neurodivergent needs are not recognised or accommodated, clients may disengage, feel misunderstood, or withdraw from services despite significant need. In services working with trauma, substance use, domestic violence and homelessness, neurodivergent presentations are often misinterpreted as resistance, lack of motivation, or non-engagement. Standard therapeutic approaches — including language use, pacing, small talk, and regulation strategies — can unintentionally increase distress, hypervigilance, or shutdown.
This training responds directly to these challenges by equipping practitioners with practical, skills-based strategies to recognise neurodivergent presentations, adapt engagement approaches, and build trust over time. The workshop is grounded in neuro-affirmative, trauma-informed practice, with Motivational Interviewing principles embedded throughout to support autonomy, collaboration and sustained engagement.
