Bantry Tidy Towns held their AGM on this Wednesday at the Maritime Hotel. There was a good attendance with the events of the past year being discussed. The renovation in Garryvurcha cemetery was complimented. A big thank-you to all the local individuals, schools, business organisations, community groups and Cork County Council who helped out in any way.
Upcoming activities were discussed with lots of new ideas being brought forward. Commencing in late February, the Tidy Towns volunteers will get their season underway on Saturday mornings, starting at 11am (weather permitting), near the fountain in the Square and then when the evenings get longer at the beginning of April, they will revert to Tuesday evenings at 7pm. The national Spring Clean will take place during April.
As well as their routine work, Bantry Tidy Towns will be concentrating on a few projects this year. When Bantry is being judged for the national SuperValu Awards, the Adjudicator’s Report has highlighted that the “Birds of Bantry” sign at the entrance to the Slobs car park needs to be replaced. Bantry Tidy Towns will also try to replace the 6 Information stands along the Béicín Walk which have fallen into disrepair.
After the success of the Swift Walk & Talk last year, new swift nestboxes will be installed at both St. Brendan’s Church and school. 4 new cameras and associated hardware will be bought so that there will be a YouTube livestream inside the school nestboxes.
