Elf has been having issues with abdominal cramps, most likely caused by over-indulgence iver the past few weeks! Thankfully our new endoscopy unit is up and running for such eventualities.

The Teds are doing what they do best, supporting and cheering.

On that note, you might wonder why we do this little series every December.

We are indebted to the Teddies for Loving Care charity who provide the bears who are an integral part of our treatment of injured children.

A basic tenet of our care is to treat the whole patient and not just their injury. Relief of pain and distress always starts with reassurance and non-pharmacological measures and the bears do this important job on a daily basis. The elf adds a smile at Christmas time which costs nothing but has great value.

The posts take a couple of minutes of our day for three weeks to highlight the teddies' role and hopefully display our gratitude to those who provide them as well as showcasing the other departments within our wonderful hospital campus.

We all strive to provide the best service possible for our community

Happy Christmas to all our clients and colleagues!

Busy night last night with not a little drama. Remember how our CNM 2 finally took sone annual leave? (She's a workaholic)

Our new and eminently capable CNM 1 has stepped up to the mark and been crowned interim boss. We suspect the original boss is having trouble switching off, though - the HR department has been inundated when calls!

The crew gatecrashed the High Dependency unit party too, they can smell out mince pies anywhere!

We were privileged to have some members of the Muintir Bhaire men's choir visit and sing for the residents of St Joseph's ward today.

We must have been reminiscing about the early days in Bantry Injury Unit when Dr Featherstone worked with us and could talk about fishing from dawn to dusk! We still have his wire cutter which is invaluable for removing fish hooks from skin!

Elf decided he would try his hand last night ...he had great fun but where we're going to wash our hands today, who knows? The infection control nurses will have a bone to pick with him on Monday...

We don't know if the elf was trying to be a winner or a prize but he was certainly keen to get involved in Wellness at Work raffle last night.

The teddies are dangerously close to several bottles of spirits, there may be trouble today!

It was a very special night last night as Elf and Teds checked in with Santa himself who came to bring cheer and chocolate to the children of hospital staff.

Santa wanted to know if the patients and staff have been behaving but I just wish we had had a chance to talk to him about his cheeky ambassador!
