Meath Coast Community First Responders – Here When It Matters Most

This past week, our dedicated volunteers responded to several urgent incidents within our community, including:

A patient in cardiac arrest, without a pulse and not breathing

A patient found unconscious

A patient experiencing severe chest pain

Each call is a reminder of how every second counts in an emergency. On multiple occasions, we were able to respond to these emergencies in under six minutes from activation by the ambulance service, ensuring timely, life-saving assistance at critical moments. With our team on call 24/7, 365 days a year, we are committed to being there when you need us most, working alongside the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to deliver timely, compassionate care.

We wish those we assisted a strong recovery and extend our support to their families and loved ones. Our deepest thanks go to the National Ambulance Service for their continued partnership and dedication to patient care.

Please remember, in an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and have your Eircode ready – it can make a critical difference.

Thank you for your support over the last 12 years as we work together to keep our community safe.

HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS: men versus women

The BBC has run an article on identifying early heart attack symptoms in which they suggest symptoms may differ depending on whether you are male or female. Doctors want people to be more aware of common early symptoms such as sweating, uneasiness and tightness in the chest. The article goes on to say “While the most common symptom of a heart attack in both men and women is chest pain, women are more likely to experience other symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain”.

CFR groups operate on a voluntary basis and are trained in basic life support and the use of defibrillators. They are made up of lay people with an interest in providing life-saving support in their communities.

The National Ambulance Service, like the rest of our health service, is under considerable pressure currently.

Only dial 112/999 for genuine emergencies. There is a high volume of calls at the moment.

Please consider your own transport to hospital, if appropriate.

Arriving at ED by ambulance won't get you seen quicker.

Meath Coast Community First Responders (CFR) have installed yet another defibrillator in the Laytown and Bettystown area bringing the number of the life-saving devices they have provided to the local community to ten.

Children in Northern Ireland are going to be taught CPR as part of the school curriculum.

From next year pupils aged 11-14 will be taught the life-saving technique.

CCEA and the Education Authority will work with the British Heart Foundation and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service to develop the training.

Hi all, I hope you are all keeping safe and well in this current situation that we are all facing.

Just a quick update on our
First Aid Responder courses
Community First Responder course
Manual Handling
Fire Warden course.

As soon as it is safe to start running these courses with socal distancing we will be in touch with all our clients that we had to postpone before the lock down to rearrange a new date and take new bookings.

We know there are some companies offering a two day online and one day pratical. We have taken the decision not to go down this route as we feel it is not pratical for teaching First Aid.

Again we hope you all stay safe and we and looking forward to getting back into teaching you First Aid.
