To mark Engineers Week 2026 5th year STEM students attended a very informative and interactive presentation by on Friday 6th March. A special mention also to Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Allen, Mr. O’ Sullivan, Mr. O’ Donovan and Mr. Dennehy for the impressive demonstration of their teamwork and communication skills!
Congratulations to Steven, Jamie, Warren, Ian and Marcin who won first prize in the teamwork competition.
A huge thank you to Rockwell Engineering for offering up their time again this year.

U15 Hurlers March on!

SMGS 2-12
St Brogans 3-2

Our U15 hurlers had an impressive win against St Brogan's Bandon in the Munster D Quarter Final. Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Blarney were first out of the blocks registering points from Shane Dineen and Darragh O'Driscoll. Joe Leary's meandering run through the Brogans defence resulted in the first green flag of the day. Brogans gradually gained a foothold in the game and registered a goal of their own from a 21 yard free. Points from Jake Shakeshaft and Whitechurch GAA marksmen, Garrett O'Sullivan and Jamie Cremin O'Riordan, helped Blarney to a commanding half time lead.

In the second half a wind assisted Brogans came into the game more scoring an early goal and point. Resolute defending from Grenagh's Conor Moriarty, Dylan Twomey, Evan O'Mahony and Tadhg O'Connell kept any potential Brogans comeback at bay. Blarney converted only 2 scoring opportunities in the second half giving them plenty to work on prior to their semifinal next week against Waterford opposition.

Minor Basketballers are through to the final after playing an unbelievable game against Brogans and winning 35-32 🏆🏆 Well done girls!

SMGS is delighted to welcome Maria Young of Green Spaces Cork to visit us this coming Friday 13th.

Maria will be giving a sustainable walk and talk on the school grounds with a focus on how schools and communitoes can protect and enrich the the local environment. Any member of the school or local community is welcome to join. Please contact mherlihy@smgsblarney if you would like to attend.

Well done to Noah McGorman-Murphy 1st year and Michael O’Connor 2nd year who both ran excellent races in today’s All Ireland Cross Country Championships. The boys can be extremely proud of their achievements. Well done!

Congratulations to 2nd Year student Theo Rypysc who has been selected as part of the U15 Irish Ice Hockey team that will travel to Canada at the end of March for an international competition. Well done Theo and best of luck in Canada.
