Men’s mental health at Christmas

Christmas carries expectations of warmth, generosity, and connection. But it also brings pressure: to maintain harmony, to keep things cheerful, to avoid disrupting the collective rhythm of celebration. For men who have long believed that emotional honesty risks burdening others, these expectations can reinforce their instinct to pull away, and step into the background.

Social Anxiety at Christmas

Christmas can be a time where we end up in social situations not of our own making. Many of us will end up at work parties or extended family gatherings that make us feel uncomfortable or that trigger social anxiety.

It is worth remembering that when we’re feeling anxious we can be particularly prone to “thinking errors” like mind reading or fortune telling.

The Holidays After Loss

The holiday season often comes with expectations of joy, laughter, and togetherness, but if you’ve lost someone you love, it can feel heavy, lonely, or even overwhelming. Not feeling “merry and bright” during this time is normal, and it doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. Grief doesn’t take a holiday, and your emotions are valid.

Christmas Cringe!

Christmas gives us plenty to look forward to, from cosy moments to catch-ups with friends and family. It also gives us something most of us would happily do without, the embarrassing moment. Maybe you knocked over a glass at the dinner table, said something awkward during a family conversation, or sang a little too enthusiastically at the work party. Whatever form it takes, that wave of cringe can stick around far longer than the moment itself.

Silent Nights, Loud Families: A CBT Survival Guide!

We don’t choose the family we are born into. Sometimes we wish we didn’t have to connect with certain members of our family, and sometimes we choose not to. Whether that is for our own sanity or health, it can be and is a hugely difficult decision to make, and situation to manoeuvre.

🧠 The Dangers of Smartphones for Children & Teens 📱

Research shows that smartphone ownership puts our children at risk of emotional, cognitive, neurological, and physical dangers.

Cybersafekids shows that smartphone ownership is down 10% this year. This is partly due to the growth of school and community “hold off” movements where parents all agree to limit smartphone ownership.

If your child needs a phone this Christmas, the Balance Phone is an incredible option. No social media, no gambling, no adult content. And we are so delighted to share that we now have a code which provides €15 off your purchase!

Use code KATRINA15 at checkout to avail of the discount!
