Gratitude post!! Starting a business on my own, renting a room 15 years ago, I could never have hoped to be where I am today. Smaointe has been a labour of love and hardship through the years. I have undeniable gratitude for the people that I have had the privilege to work with and beside. My team here are just the best group of absolute legends who do more good than they will ever recognise. Thank you for all that you bring to Smaointe, it most definitely would not be what it is without you.
The clients, what can I say?! I’ll always be blown away by the strength of humanity. What people can endure and still prevail with grace and strength is unfathomable. Keep going, there hasn’t been a single situation that you haven’t fully survived.

thank you from the bottom of my heart for your spectacular talent in getting me make up ready for Friday night. It takes a lot to get me camera ready and you did an amazing job 🥰

Finally, I need to take this opportunity to thank the amazingly talented and wonderfully spirited .hairstylist for doing my hair 2 days in a row and had me looking fabulous!! Your energy and positive vibes made this weekend so special. Thank you ❤️

Why don’t Smartphones carry warning labels? Research has shown the mental and neurological effects. The damage they cause is widely documented.
This article that I wrote explains some of the reasons why they should carry warning labels.

Watching “shorts” like those on TikTok and YouTube, are 5 times more brain damaging than consuming alcohol.

🎉 Another successful school talk on Mental Health by our psychotherapist Kevin Noonan! 💪🏼

This one took place with the wonderful students at Carrigaline Community School. The talk focused on practical ways that young people can support their mental health and well-being:

• Perspective
• Tackling challenging and unhelpful thoughts
• Mental Health KPI’s

At Smaointe CBT we really believe in equipping young people with the tools and skills necessary to support their health and wellbeing in a world full of pressure and changes.

It’s great to be asked to talk more about the impacts of smart devices on our children. Tonight I’m at The Rennies in Nohoval giving a talk on the neurological, psychological and developmental risks of giving our young people full access to devices that allow the whole world access to them.

Remember if you’re looking to give your child to the world of phones, the best entry level phone is the Balance Phone. Get €15 off with code “KATRINA15”.

Smartphone ownership is down 10%!

2024 Research from :
https://www.cybersafekids.ie/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/CSK-TU-Report-23-24-Final.pdf

2025 Research: https://www.cybersafekids.ie/report2025/

Between the two reports, which are based on anonymous surveys completed by thousands of children each year, it can be seen that children aged 08 - 12 years in primary schools reporting a 10% drop in smartphone ownership (49% - 39%), and an 11% drop in the use of social media/instant messaging platforms with a 13+ age rating (82% - 71%).

We put this down - at least in part - to the growth of school and community ‘hold off’ movements.

If your child needs a phone the Balance Phone is a fantastic option. I am extremely excited to share that the company have heard about what we do and have given us a discount code to share with anyone who would like to join the global initiative to protect our children from the neurological, cognitive, emotional and physical dangers that smart devices expose them to.
Check it out and use code “KATRINA15” to avail of a €15 discount.

I agonised over whether I should post this or not as it’s extremely raw and vulnerable. I decided to post to show people that
1. I’m human too, and even though I’m trained in mental health, no one escapes anxiety.
2. I wanted to get the message across that anxiety can be overridden and beaten through using CBT techniques.
3. The only way the brain learns is through experience.

I’m posting this now while sitting in the carpark waiting for week 2 of training to start, and I’m so excited!! I’m still buzzing from the experience of beating my anxiety, not giving in to the fear that my body was wrongly sending me signals for, and inevitably increasing my brains power to rewire itself.

Neuroplasticity is the brains ability to rewire and form new neural pathways based on experience, thus improving overall brain health. The more new things we do, the more we reduce the chances of Alzheimer’s, dementia etc.

Through the use of the “Hot Cross Bun” Strategy we can successfully address our thoughts, feelings, physiological symptoms and behaviours/actions. (DM us with your email if you’d like a copy of this technique).
In this example I thought “I can’t do this, I’ll be no good at it, people will see that I’m a clutz and they’ll not want to have anything to do with me”.
This caused feelings of inadequacy, fear, anxiety and this my physiological symptoms had my heart racing, short, sharp breathing, sick stomach, tight throat, sweaty palms, tingly feet and feeling faint at times. Behaviourally all I wanted to do was run and hide.
Instead I challenged these thoughts with more rationale ones of “We’re all starring from the same point (or similar), it’s all for fun, and even if I am not good at it, who cares?!”
I pushed through and did it and now my brain does not see training as a fearful activity anymore.

Please don’t suffer with anxiety, it can be helped. DM us for more info, we’re here to help!
