🫀 Five small steps that support a healthy blood pressure.

High blood pressure can often be improved through everyday lifestyle habits - and small consistent changes really do add up.

Here are five evidence-based steps worth considering:
Move more - regular moderate activity, like a daily walk, supports healthy blood pressure
Reduce salt - even small reductions in dietary salt can make a measurable difference
Limit alcohol - staying within recommended guidelines is beneficial for heart health
Manage stress - chronic stress contributes to raised blood pressure over time
Get checked - you can’t manage what you don’t know about

If you are over 40 and haven’t had your blood pressure checked recently, it’s worth booking in. It takes just a few minutes and is one of the most useful checks you can have.

Our GP and practice nurse team are here to help.

Over 200,000 people in Ireland are living with endometriosis. Despite this, it remains widely misunderstood and, for many, takes years to diagnose.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other parts of the body, most commonly in the pelvic region. It can cause symptoms including severe period pain, pelvic pain, pain during s*x, fatigue, and in some cases, difficulties with fertility.

Diagnosis can be delayed due to the varying and ambiguous nature of symptoms - in some cases it has taken up to nine years for women to receive a diagnosis.

If you experience pain that feels more than just “normal” period pain, or symptoms that are affecting your quality of life, please don’t dismiss it. Your GP is a good first port of call - and there are now more pathways available in Ireland to support diagnosis and treatment.

You deserve to be heard.

Prostate health - what every man should know.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in Ireland, after skin cancer. Every year, more than 4,000 men are diagnosed, meaning around 1 in 6 men will receive a diagnosis during their lifetime.

Many men with early prostate cancer have no symptoms at all. That’s why awareness and early conversation with your GP matters.
Symptoms to be aware of include changes to urinary flow, needing to urinate more frequently - especially at night - or any blood in urine or semen. These can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions, but they should always be checked.

If you are a man over the age of 45, it is worth talking to your GP about PSA testing, particularly if you have risk factors such as a family history of prostate cancer.

If you have concerns, our team is here to help. Don’t put it off.

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend with your loved ones. 🐣

The Easter holidays are a great opportunity to spend quality time with your little ones - and keeping kids active and engaged during school breaks is great for their physical and mental health.

But it’s not just children who benefit. Getting outside, whether with family, friends, or simply on your own, is one of the simplest things you can do for your physical and mental wellbeing.

A walk in the fresh air, time in nature, or just stepping away from screens for a while can make a real difference to how you feel day to day.

Whatever it looks like for you - make the most of the longer, brighter days this spring. 🌿

April is Autism Awareness Month - a time to recognise and celebrate the autism community and reflect on how we can better support autistic people at every stage of life.

Autism is a lifelong condition that affects how people experience and interact with the world around them. No two autistic people are the same, and many live full, independent lives with the right understanding and support.

If you have concerns about yourself or your child, your GP can be your first point of contact - whether that’s discussing a possible diagnosis, accessing referrals, or simply talking things through.

Support can make a real difference. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Hay fever season is here - are you prepared?

One in five people in Ireland suffers from hay fever and if you’re one of them, you’ll know the sneezing, itchy eyes and congestion that comes with rising pollen counts.

April is upon us and it’s # prime time for tree pollen in Ireland, with birch, plane, ash and oak all at their peak. Grass pollen season follows from May onwards, meaning symptoms can continue well into summer.

Some practical tips to help manage symptoms:
🐝 Check the daily pollen count at pollen.ie
🐝 Keep windows closed in the early morning and evening when pollen is highest
🐝 Shower and change clothes after time outdoors
🐝 Wrap-around sunglasses can help protect your eyes

Over-the-counter antihistamines and nasal sprays help many people, but if your symptoms are persistent or severe, your GP can discuss further options including prescription treatments.

Don’t suffer in silence - our team is here to help.

The sun is coming - is your skin protected?

As the days get longer and brighter, it’s a good time to think about sun protection. Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in Ireland, and most cases are preventable.

You don’t need to be on a sun holiday to need SPF. UV rays can cause skin damage even on cloudy days, particularly between March and October.

Some simple habits to protect your skin:
☀️ Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily, even on overcast days
☀️ Reapply every two hours when outdoors
☀️ Wear protective clothing and a hat during peak sun hours (11am–3pm)
☀️ Check your skin regularly for any new or changing moles or marks

If you notice a mole that has changed in shape, colour or size, is bleeding, or looks different from others, don’t wait - book an appointment to have it assessed.

Early detection makes a significant difference.

Your reminder to book your cervical screening appointment.

Cervical screening saves lives - and booking takes just a few minutes.

In Ireland, around 25% of eligible women miss their screening. Cervical screening can detect HPV and early cell changes before any symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective - that’s exactly why screening matters.

Not sure if you’re due? You can check the CervicalCheck register using your PPS number and date of birth at hse.ie.

If you’ve missed an appointment or feel nervous about attending, our GP and practice nurse team are here to help.

Winter can be a difficult time for many people, and its effects don’t always disappear as the seasons start to change.

Shorter days, colder weather, and post-holiday fatigue can affect mood, energy levels, and motivation. While these feelings are common, they shouldn’t be dismissed if they begin to interfere with daily life.

Mental wellbeing is just as important as physical health. GPs can help explore what support may be helpful and discuss next steps where appropriate.

If low mood, anxiety, or ongoing stress is affecting you, it’s okay to ask for support.
