Reflexology is much more than some people think it is. It’s calmer shoulders, deeper breaths, and your nervous system going, “Ahhhhhh, finally.” 💆🙌💜

It’s not unusual to feel sleepy, heavy, or even emotionally drained after a reflexology session, and it’s actually a good sign that your body is responding.

Reflexology activates the parasympathetic nervous system - the “rest and digest” branch responsible for slowing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and triggering recovery processes. When the body shifts out of a chronic stress state (sympathetic dominance), it finally has permission to relax, repair, and rebalance.

That deep relaxation can sometimes feel like fatigue, especially if your system has been running on adrenaline or stress hormones for a long time. The tiredness isn’t a side effect. It’s a signal that your body is resetting its internal balance.

📚 Research supports this response:

Studies, including McVicar et al. (Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, 2007), show measurable reductions in heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety levels following reflexology - clear indicators of parasympathetic activation.

A 2011 pilot study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that reflexology sessions produced significant decreases in salivary cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone), reinforcing the link between reflexology and stress reduction.

Improvements in sleep quality and relaxation have been documented across multiple clinical settings, from cancer care to maternity wards, all pointing to the same physiological mechanism of rest and regulation.

💧 How to support your body afterward:

Drink water to help the body process metabolic by-products released during deep relaxation.

Avoid caffeine or alcohol immediately after your session to prolong the calm.

Rest if you can, even a short nap or quiet time helps integrate the benefits.

Feeling tired after reflexology is simply your body exhaling and catching up on the rest it’s been asking for. 😴

Our hormones influence everything. Our mood, energy, and sleep, metabolism, fertility, and emotional resilience. When they’re out of balance, we can feel it in every part of our lives.

Reflexology offers a gentle, holistic approach to supporting the endocrine system - the network of glands that produce and regulate our hormones (including the thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, and ovaries/testes).

When we’re under chronic stress, our bodies release high levels of cortisol, the primary stress hormone. Over time, this can throw other hormones off balance - affecting menstrual cycles, thyroid activity, weight regulation, and even immune function.

By calming the nervous system and promoting deep relaxation, reflexology helps lower stress hormones and encourages the body to return to homeostasis - its natural state of balance.

🧠 How it works:

Reflex points corresponding to endocrine glands are stimulated, helping to improve communication between these systems via neural and circulatory pathways.

Activating the parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) response reduces cortisol and adrenaline levels.

With less stress load, the body can better regulate hormones like oestrogen, progesterone, insulin, and melatonin.

📚 What the research shows:

A 2019 study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research found that women who received reflexology during their menstrual cycle experienced reduced PMS symptoms, less pain, and improved mood.

In Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice (2017), researchers reported that reflexology helped reduce anxiety and fatigue in menopausal women, suggesting a beneficial effect on stress-related hormonal imbalance.

Other studies note reflexology’s potential to lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and enhance overall wellbeing - all indicators of a more regulated endocrine system.

✨ The bigger picture:
While reflexology doesn’t replace medical care or claim to “fix” hormonal disorders, it can be a valuable complementary approach to help the body find its rhythm again.
For many, it offers a sense of calm, better sleep, and renewed emotional balance - the foundation for healthier hormone function.

Reflexology isn’t just relaxing. Studies show it can lead to real, measurable changes in the body.

A review published in National Center for Biotechnology Information looked at what happens physiologically and biochemically when people receive reflexology. Here’s what they found 👇

✅ 1. Stress hormone levels can change
Several studies showed reductions in cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone) and salivary amylase after reflexology. Lower stress = better balance for many systems in the body.

❤️ 2. Heart rate and blood pressure may respond
People often experience a calming effect — including lower heart rate and blood pressure during or after a session. This reflects activation of the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) system.

😊 3. Improved relaxation and emotional wellbeing
Participants consistently reported feeling calmer, more centered, and less anxious after reflexology. This isn’t just subjective — some studies observed measurable shifts in physiological markers of stress.

⚠️ Important note:
These changes don’t mean reflexology treats or cures disease. But they do show that what happens during a session is more than surface-level pampering. It can support the body’s natural stress regulation pathways.

A relaxed body has more capacity to heal, regulate, and restore balance. Reflexology supports the body’s natural balance by encouraging deep relaxation and reducing stress. Small shifts inside can make a big difference in how you feel on the outside.

Francines Story

“You can not go back and change the Beginning - But you can start where you are and change the ending “ - Having spent my life in the service industry , I discovered a new lease of life and am dedicating my time to promoting good health , relaxation , Re balancing the body , Rewiring the mind . Life is ever changing , and moving forward we have to embrace the new normal .

I was a barber for 35 years - These were some of the best days of my life and i met trained with and worked with some of the best , my clients were not only friends but my teachers and for this i will be forever grateful . I have always had an intrest in massage and I first qualified in sports massage back in 2015 , from there I found my Passion when i discovered Reflexology , every treatment blows me away with the incredible benefits it provides to clients . I offer foot, hand and face reflexology - the later being a deluxe treatment , using my bespoke aromatherapy oil blends and added to with the sheer luxury of hot towels , face massage , gu-asha tools , and derma roller . This year i also have added hot stone massage to my repertoire of massage techniques . Just another amazing treatment to melt away tired muscles , Un-knotting any tension that you may be experiencing . Each treatment I do has brought me on a journey , one of self help . I have learnt so much about me and i am aware of my calling to assist and help others along their journey .

The KCR kinetic chain release was a treatment i learned to Re-balance the body , releasing connective tissue enabling the body to reset and the client to experience freedom again . I myself recieved relief when training , A shoulder injury that i had for 7 years and was awaiting surgery was miraculously reset during just 1 treatment . I have had success with clients having had major back issues , neck issues , car accidents , strokes , leg length difference , Athletes all benefit from this treatment , ive seen footballers improve their game , runners reach PBs , cyclists , golfers ,swimmers , jockeys all benefit : Its a perfect treatment for Mums after having babies, as it resets the pelvis . the list is endless .

Havening was a treatment I discovered when suffering anxiety and trauma following a house burglary . this simple touch therapy left me feeling relaxed at ease and reset my racing mind . It is a Psycho-sensory touch therapy , it helps change the chemicals , to change encoded memory in our brain . it creates delta waves , helping the body to release serotonin and when done under the guidance of a trained therapist it can help release any trauma from the brain .ive worked with phobias , bullying , anxiety , depression , accident trauma , anger , grief , insomnia , detachment issues - the ability to watch someone to regain their confidence their smile their life is the epitomy of being grateful for this career i have found . I have recently began to offer this treatment on zoom and it is proving very successful. you are welcome to get in contact to arrange an appointment . This is also available as work therapy as we realize a new normal going back to work . The mental health of staff is important , and to be able to reach out and assist in calming any anxieties in any workplace will be a welcome call. I aim to bring this into the school situations and welcome any teacher / principal to contact me to discuss this further .
