- Know the signs of stroke.

What F.A.S.T. stands for
- Face: Has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
- Arms: Can they raise both arms and keep them up?
- Speech: Is their speech slurred? Can they speak clearly and understand you?
- Time: If you see any of these signs, it's Time to call 112 or 999 immediately.

Why acting fast is crucial
- Save brain cells: Every minute matters, as a stroke destroys two million brain cells every minute.
- Reduce disability: Prompt medical treatment can significantly reduce a person's long-term disability.
- Call emergency services: Don't wait to see if symptoms improve. Call 112 or 999 right away to get to the emergency department quickly.

"Fast stroke" in Ireland refers to the F.A.S.T. campaign, an initiative by the Irish Heart Foundation and the HSE to raise awareness of stroke symptoms and the critical importance of acting quickly.

Great initiative by IWA raising awareness of disability to primary and secondary school children throughout the country.

As we settle back into school, college and the resumption of term time activities, IWA’s DAISY (Disability Awareness in Schools and Youth) programme is heading into its third year.

Edel Carey who is IWA’s Schools Liaison Officer says that her role in providing Disability Awareness to both Primary and Secondary Schools, along with groups such as Scouts and Youth Clubs, is creating awareness among our future teachers, planners, architects, builders, legislators, parents and carers of the future.

In the last year alone, 47 secondary schools have registered for the TY (transition year) DAISY workshop which provides face to face interaction with a lived experience of disability. Read more here https://bit.ly/48a3JVy
