There is no "season" for head lice. however it tends to peak as kids return to school in the Autumn and then again in January after the Winter school break.

The only way to be sure someone has head lice is by finding live lice in the hair. You can do this by combing their hair with a special detection comb (a fine-toothed comb)

Head lice and nits are very common in young children and their families. They are not as a result of unclean hair or poor hygiene and are simply picked up by head-to-head contact. Head lice cannot jump or fly but walk from one head to another.

📌Treating head lice

- Wet combing
You can remove lice and nits by wet combing. Try this before anvthiny else. You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) from our pharmacy to remove head lice and nits.

- Medicated lotions and sprays
Ask one of our pharmacists for advice if you've tried wet combing for 2 weeks, but your child still has head lice.
They may recommend using medicated lotions and sprays to kill head lice
There are instructions in the box on how to use the treatment.

Head lice should die within a day after treatment. Lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs.
You may need to repeat some treatments after a week to kill any newly hatched lice.

Preventing head lice
You cannot prevent head lice. You can reduce the risk of lice spreading by avoiding head-to-head contact and tying back long hair, we also have some repellants in store to try protect against them 🪳
