📍 Secondary Lymphoedema can develop when the lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes have been damaged / obstructed or by Infection / Injury
📍 Secondary lymphodema is unilateral
📍 Begins proximal and progresses distal - starts at the top and works it's way down
📍 the most common causes of Secondary Lymphedema are ⬇️
▫️Oncological surgery, lymph node dissection
▫️Post- Radiation, can damage the lymphatic system in the area of treatment
▫️Trauma and Immobility
▫️Reoccurring Cellulitis or infection that affects the superficial lymphatics eg. Erysipelas
▫️Filariasis parasitic disease live in the lymphatic system
▫️ High BMI / Obesity
