Today, on World Stroke Day 🧠 we turn our special attention to our beloved seniors, who are most at risk of this sudden and dangerous event.
Stroke is a race against time, and most strokes in older adults manifest in the same, characteristic way. If you recognize one of the symptoms, be sure to:
📞 Call Emergency Services Immediately (112) Inform the dispatcher of a suspected stroke. This is a priority that will speed up the assistance.
🚫 Give Nothing to Eat or Drink Do not give medication (even for blood pressure) or liquids to avoid the risk of choking.
🛌 Position Safely If the person is conscious, lay them down with their head slightly raised. If they are unconscious, place them in the recovery position (on their side).
⏳ Note the Time Remember when the first symptoms appeared. This information is critical for doctors to administer effective treatment.
In the case of a stroke, every minute counts. Rapid action—reaching a hospital equipped with a stroke unit within the so-called "therapeutic window" (about 4.5 hours)—can prevent disability or death.
