⚠️ Slurry Gas Safety Reminder – Protect Yourself, Your Family & Your Livestock

We’re receiving reports of serious slurry gas incidents on farms, including recent cases where livestock have been lost during agitation.
This time of year, brings increased risk, and we’re urging all members to take extra care.

Remember 10% of farm deaths between 2010 and 2020 were slurry related.
When working with slurry, remember:
🔥 Evacuate all people and animals from sheds before agitating
🌬️ Ventilate buildings thoroughly—open all doors and outlets
🌀 Agitate from the outside where possible and never enter a shed immediately after agitation begins

Even a few breaths of toxic slurry gases—particularly hydrogen sulphide—can be fatal to both humans and animals.
Useful guidance is available from the Health & Safety Authority and Teagasc, including step by step safety advice and practical checklists.

We strongly encourage every farmer to review these resources before starting any slurry work.

Let’s work together to prevent accidents on farm this season.
